A little update: March 14th 2015

I bought most everything I needed to run a new 3/4" PEX line to the greenhouse, most everything. I suppose it wouldn't be a challenge if I had thought of everything... :?

Starting off in the early morning Saturday, having a look at what and how I was going to make this plan I imagined so many months ago come to fruition

First, I had to run around the ranch and find the crimper. One of two trips in the end looking for one last fitting, sheesh.

The easiest place to connect behind the washing mashine where all the plumping connects was the cold water supply to the water heater, which was already the 3/4" I plan on supplying to the greenhouse.

Wow, sometimes I wonder how exactly I convince myself and my wife that one part of the gargantuan project will be a peice of cake :?

This is where that one last little fitting got overlooked at the hardware store in Santa Fe, damn. I wound up stealing one from another project, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to turn the water om in the rest of the house, yikes and whoops.

There it is, boy howdy!!! We have water in the greenhouse, yippie!!!

A couple side notes: Many years ago we installed PEX under the concrete in our living room, which it what those "other" lines are coming up out of the floor by the faucet feed. Never did hook them up to anything after I figured out how much energy it word take from our wood heater, doh.

PEX is so easy to work with, but I've been collecting various diameter PVC fittings and pipes getting ready for the big plumbing project which is looking like it is perhaps weeks away????
Just call me Plumb and Plumber Rodgers

Thank you Charlie and all for all the information and encouragement. Ron, I've spent many hours reading your Patio project thread this morning, holy cow man. You are amazing, all of you, thanks

Brian,

Is that galvanized pipe? Hard to tell in the picture. If so won't it leach nasties like zinc into the FT water?

I've only seen black pipe used for gas lines. I didn't think you could use it for drinking water lines? No plumber here, just what I've seen on construction sites here. I know black pipe has no zinc, so the fish should be fine.

Oh, you're looking at the quasi-water-manifold and seeing galvanized pipe, sure. Out of seven hundred feet of pipe, yes, I have that manifold in galvanized pipe. Again, I sure do love PEX; (knock on wood, it never leaks) It is so much easier to work with than steel. I'm old-school, but more than ready to try new stuff too. Everything in the aquaponics system will be PVC of course.

Hi Brian
I know nothing about the water in your location.
However. As I see it you have two choices; Tap water and local precipitation.
Test them both for PH, hardness etc
Then you can choose your top up water appropriately.

that pond is busted out of fairly pure limestone, you can guess what way our aquifer pH leans. I'll relocate and line our 1000 gallon rainwater catchment system so I can add some ionized water from our clean mountain lightning filled skies.

Thanks Coach. I am thinking the same thing; very short distance, zinc leaching won't have much time to occur. I'm also seeing with our limestone rich well water the insides of the pipes are pretty well coated in a year :shifty:

Good Morning

Here is something that you won’t hear often from me, “I overslept.” Yes, I really pushed myself this weekend, but seriously I woke at 8:30 am, holy moley. Now I really need to get ready for a new workweek.
