Well, haven't had any fish cark it yet, still got 21. Planted some lettuce and cauli seedlings as well as lettuce seed yesterday. The seedlings show no sign of transplant shock. Birds had a bit of a nip at the lettuces today tho.

Finished up putting 10mm bird wire over the top of the spa, no more jumpers!! The fish seem very happy and active although my nitrite reading still seems too high. Gave them a small feed this morning and most of it was gone when i got home from work.

I soaked some bread in milk and placed it on the bird wire yesterday. Bugger me if this morning it hadn't been nibbled at. Mouse no doubt. Resoaked it today, get home and it is half eaten and 3-4 dead flies in the spa below. Couldn't tell if it was bird or rodents, but no mouse poop in the area.
Duckweed going well, threw the dead yabbies in it for tucker which the wrigglers are getting first crack at. Fish don't seem interested in it but it is early days i guess.

don't put copper sulphate anywhere near your system if you ever want yabbies to live in there.

I was told to avoid all copper fittings as well as brass fittings wwhen it comes to keeping any sort of shell fish or crustation...

CuSO4 is used to rid dams of yabbies. ultra toxic to them.

I think it does have prescribed uses in treating fish diseases, but not for the backyarder, i believe you need to control both PH and GH/KH when dosing, toxicity level for fish multiply dramatically if those variables shift. Go the normal salt, its number ONE on my "cures" list ;)

Yabbies in the duckweed were of the dead variety. Gotta 20kg bag of seasalt for 5 bucks, so no copper sulphate for me!
Actually saw the fish feeding for the first time 2nite, baby steps.
Friggin birds ate most of my lettuce seedlings. What is left is now under wire so we will see how they recover.
Dasall.

They have been dynamite last 2 years. It is just so dry that any fresh succulent young seedlings are like, bird candy.
If i end up building a greenhouse next time, i will need to take this into consideration. Whilst i will need ventilation, i also need to stop birds getting in.

Quick question:
Fish seem quite aggressive this morning. Not just big ones chasing little ones but the reverse as well. Any ideas?
Water temp nicen comfy20C, perhaps it is normal behaviour around feed time, dunno.

Fish now have a gutsful Jaymie, prolly been taking the "low feed early days" a bit too far.
Having grown veges all my life i can say 2 things about my AP plants so far. Growth is much quicker and plants have a deeper than normal green colour.
