Had another big weekend, installed the dam for the "Yabbitat" and moved all the yabbies we could find into there new home. There is still work to done securing the plastic liner and such, it seems to working as intended.

In the process we removed the auxillary biofilter (made from plastic soak-well and bird mesh) as it was loaded with baby yabbies, I will put some of the bird mesh in the yabbitat as they seem to like it and they don't get caught in it?

Sidenote; the auxillary biofilter has been going for about 18 months and it had only a couple of very small manky (anerobic?) spots and 99% of the mesh looked good.

The last few yabbies I got out of the FT were actually trying to climb to the yabbitat, so it must be ok LOL?

when I put the bird netting back I think I'll leave some over the dam and into the FT, giving them a means to escape the FT.

Probably a rookie question but since I have never raised yabbies, here it goes. Why is there a need for an escape route?

They are cannabals. Btw, yabbies are Australia's version of crayfish, and all of the stuff that applies to raising yabbies applies to crayfish too.

the escape route in case there are some stray baby yabbies in the FT, they will be able to climb the FT to the YT.

The baby yabbies would be a easy snack for the Silver perch.

bricks are like baby yabbie apartment blocks.
Rocks on the LHS are an area I tried to divide of for the small babies, In the end I will set up each corner as nurseries using the bird mesh to provide shelter for the babies.
still a bit of work to be done on the catwalks and steps but it will be a cool little grotto when the mercury says 40C +

I can see myself sitting on the step with my toes in the water tickling the yabbies

when the steps and catwalks are done i will be able to access most areas without disturbing the fish.

That is why I stopped growing broccolies. They take up way too much space. That being said, I actually prefer the broccoli greens to the broccoli itself. Apparently it is more nutritious than the broccoli itself too.

Is that a commercially available plate/bracket?

What is it called?

Where do you get them?

It looks like the overkill bracket to mount weapons to the death star. Personally I'm putting my money on a patent for the pumpkin cushion, it does the job!

They always use broccoli as the example when giving nutrient statistics comparing microgreens to their adult equivalent too, so it particularly stands out as having higher nutrition in its leafing stage. Eventually I will just put broccoli seeds on my bagels
