I was doing some browsing of aliexpress and found some interesting tomato seeds:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/321106/ ... ext=tomato

My favourite is the one that has the guy leaning on the tomato. That's an impressive tomato.

So how many do you think are real? And how many photoshopped?

Hi Colum
I love seed catalogues almost as much as I love science fiction!
Perhaps it’s the Irish in me but you have got to love ‘The little people’

It must be the Irish. I'm also a massive scifi geek, and love seeds.

I really want them to be real, I've been hunting for the indigo rose, and the black and yellow bumblebee looks awesome.

And then they have posts like this:
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 72825.html
And I'm quite sure there isn't a bright blue or purple tomato around.

You might be able to get those colours by adding dye to the hydro solution. :dontknow:

Photo shop would be easier though.

Well, that wasn't quite what I was thinking, somehow I expected them to look like tomatoes with arms and legs but you did alright with that one too :thumbright:

Cheers

The tomato tree is real (see Epcot Center), but not the exactly what you'd call tomato, as I understand. The guy leaning on his tomato is (in my opinion) also a completely real photo. However, it is a great example of perspective (specifically foreshortening). It looks to me like tomato on the windowsill, guy leaning on a post outside.

Many of the other (not electric blue/purple!) varieties exist. The question becomes 'Do you feel lucky?'. I have purchased numerous packages of asian seeds (which can also be found on ali) in the asian grocer's, and had some success with them, but I'd fear that the ones that come in 'mixed lots' or unmarked packages will not grow the variety you want. I've also seen ads for seeds of plants that I understand not to grow true from seed. Basically, I think its a take your chances thing. I do intend to try some of the offbeat varieties, but only in labelled packages, and not for the varieties that I am actually picky about.

Have you tried the 750g asian carrots? 7-8cm across, but still crisp and not woody. Orange and yellow.

I would say fake... All other tommies on the plant are green... Just one group has "Coloured Up"
and then look at the translucency of the coloured ones... more like plastic

The LARGE one.. I seriously can't see it being real..
..
.
