Continuum , you seem to point out that a nutrient solution is synthetic, but what do you mean? it is not made out of plastic .

From what i know , it is a mix of mineral powder into water, isn'it . The plastic container is indeed a prob, i might just buy the powder and mix it myself it i can. but lets forget the plastic container:
What possible health problem do you see with mineral solution? I dlike to know .

Synthetic doesn't mean that it's made out plastic, in this instance it means that the nutrients are made to be chemically identical to their naturally occurring equivalent. Emphasis on the word 'made'.

Oh wow, go look up "mineral based" hydro nutes.... Simply because the guy in the store says its made of "mineral salts, etc" doesnt mean it is healthy, like a guy at a store tried to tell me.

i would eat chunks of plastic before i used synthetic hydro chems.

I understand that this system has very high standards in terms of build (which makes it difficult if not impossible to build), but keeping fish to provide the nutrients to your fish would be a much better idea than Hydro nutes.

You would hate to find that you built such a complex and expensive system just to find that the nutrients from the Hydoponic solution is more damaging than miniscule parts of food grade plastic would ever be.

Also, as Sleepe mentioned, not all plastics are made the same.

We do not mean to put down your idea and ideals, as there are some on here that cannot do certain things because of religious or philosophical reasons, and as far as I can see, they have been set up successfully - the ones I have seen at least.

You just need to think of the end result. Why use man made nutrients when you can use fish made ones.

This is an aquaponics site after all. Fish and Food.

And then inevitably being absorbed into any non glass surfaces in said system, then re- emitted later on once you decide to stop using the nutes.

i finally decided to give my failed system another go, so more fish are dead, lol.
got zinc coming back out of the scoria it seems, so got some cuprisorb and *frack* the fact it says aquarium use only, i want fish to live!

how have you been? settled in well at the NSW place? got a system running there yet?

hey, how many litres/min is your air pump? our air lift system lifts up to 2m head from 0.5m of water depth as long as you provide more than 25L/min.

Let's be generous and say that 800L/hr would be possible without the air stone running. ...

800L/hr to to height of 0.6m using 4th yields an efficency of 0.0029%.

Second duty in the video was...

120L/hr to a height of 2m using 25w yields anew efficency of 0.0026%.

Less than 1% efficency is not good at the best of times but less then 100th of a percent is well...insert description here.

This is why these style of pumps have so few GOOD applications. In fact the only one I know of wood be if you had a tank a long way from power and want ed to run a pump with an airline alone.

The other exhale that gets mention ed is lifting water from a gully. But then a hydraulic ram or platypus pump would be better.
