Hello,

I am in the process of creating, or trying to enhance, a new approach for sustainable living both at a residential and city wide level. I am looking for information on "alternative" methods of supplying the key elements to create a aquaponics system that can be somewhat scalable.

I am looking for any information of the study of replacing the food source the plant would receive from fish to a human input. I am looking for information of anyone using their household wastewater to replace the fish element of a common aquaponic system. I am curious to know if either directly or by some small amount of processing the nutrients can be implement into a aquaponic system. In theory I understand this would work, but I wanted know if there is any research. If indeed this would work, could this be scaled to be used in conjunction with a waste water plant of a small city.

It could work for sure... humans have done varying versions for millenia. However in the modern era things like pathogen control would require additional treatment that hobbyist or commercial AP setups don't need to worry about. You'd really need to learn the full corpus of aquaponics detail and then consult with a waste treatment chemist/biologist so you can talk turkey.

Thank you all for your help. Though this has ended up being the beginning of a foreseeable long endeavor, I appreciate everyones help with some directions going forward.
