Hi all,
My name is Michael and I am halfway through building my first setup. I am converting a leaking pool in my backyard to a pond to use. I am hoping to have some silver perch and a wealth of vegies. I will attach some pics and video. I would really like any advice or feedback. I am building it so it has four grow beds(clay balls/flood and drain) and three dwc (if thats the right term). As you can see from the pics i am only half way done but about to connect the growbeds. I am also hoping to grow shrimp as a food source for the fish in the dwc tubs. I have built a swirl filter and a bio filter as i am worried i have too much pond and not enough grow beds.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to any help or ideas you guys might have.

cheers,
Michael

P.S. I tried to add more pics and a video but it wont let me. Sry

Looks great, should be fun to see it come together.

With your water volume, I wouldn't worry about sumps, just drain back and forth from the tank, and don't worry about too much water, it'll be fine.

Your biggest problem I think will be algae in the pond, it's in full sun. If you can set up some shade over the tank that'd be helpful, and throw in some duckweed, and fish that like to eat algae (goldfish enjoy it).

Are you going to use the waterfall feature?

Welcome to the forum Aquadood :thumbright: . Great looking area to convert over to AP, with lots of potential from the looks of it.

Cheers

welcome Aquadood, yes you will probably need more bio-filtration.
remember fish feed rate is proportional to your BSA (biological surface area)

so the more/bigger fish you have the more BSA you need.

I have about 8kl of water in my pool and 3kl of Gb media (and soon to added another 1.5kl) plus 50m of birdnetting bio-filter

i had issues with algae buildup in my pool, the cover over the pool sorted it.

Fish are not keen on lots of sunlight, I would sincerely suggest a cover of some sort, not a floating one though, you also need air flow over the water surface.

I also had nutrient deficiencies which seem to be sorted with 200ml of seasol every week.
