Hello fellow water-bounds,

My name is Nandi, I'm 38 years old, living near the south-western corner of the Lake Balaton in Hungary.
I come from a nature-freak background, my father is one of the founders of Hungary's first private nature conservation association that has been functioning for over thirty years. I've spent most of my life near fishponds and different other wetland habitats (marshes, wet pastures, etc.) and since the age of 6 I've always had one or more aquariums.

Over the last 18 years I've been keeping and breeding discus fishes, had my own hatchery with 24x50 gallon tanks on a central system, a 250-gallon display tank with wild-caught discus, which I managed to breed as well. Based on this successful wild discus breeding with a friend of mine we founded this small project called The Xinguary (www.xinguary.com - site still under construction, but there's already quite a lot to see on there).

I have quite a lot of experience in operating fishy systems of all sorts, I am familiar with all the necessary stuff regarding water chemistry, the nitrogene cycle and all the rest of it, and having run my own water purification business for about 8 years I have access to most gadgetry required for an aquaponic system. I have learned from experience that small systems are rather "fragile", so I prefer to think big. My new home aquarium will be 700gallons with another 1200 actinc as buffer and filtration (for Rio Negro Heckel discus) and the AP I'm planning to construct will be 'slightly' bigger than that. But more on that in another post in the appropriate area.

My nickname comes from my general approach to things, I'm very much a KISS & DIY guy (keep it simple, stupid & do-it-yourself), and this is the approach I'd like to follow when creating my aquaponic system.

I've been lurking the forums here for a while, but being a very busy person engaged in many various things at one time (I do project management for foreign real estate owners in Hungary and with my girlfriend we run a small riding stables with 10 horses) I may going to ask questions that have already been answered here one time or more, so please, don't go :upset: on me in case...

This is all for a start, I'll be back with more later on.
