Have you got a recipe in mind? I'm going to do quail cacciatore. If I can get my eggs to hatch. The humid weather is giving me grief.

Thing is most young are cute. Calfs, chicks, goats to name a few.

Yes Im thinking of GP Soup cooked in a slow cooker with vegetables and broth. another method is pan fried in Garlic and Rosemary sauce served with roast potatoes and steamed veggies.

Another 3 New Babies! Things are certainly fertile around here. Now we have 6 New Guinea Pigs with another 2 Sows Pregnant!

How long do you think until you will try one, Matt?

I'd say we are looking at around 10 weeks from now until these new pups are full grown and big enough. But if I end up with bigger GP from the pups then I have now, I'll make them the new breeders and eat one of the older ones.

I'm going to try and selectively breed them to produce the biggest GP I can.

How big are the breeders you have now? It will be interesting to see how fast your selective breeding is effective.

My great uncle used to raise bobwhite quail and selectively bred for 40 or 50 years before getting to old to care for them himself. Before he passed my father took over the line and bred them for about 6 or 7 years after that. He eventually had to stop because of health reasons as well. The last few dozen were released but all died shortly after I'm sure. They weighed about 2 pounds and couldn't fly but short distances. It was impressive how large they were. I hate the line was lost. Especially now that I have the means to raise them myself.

Hi MG, I just weighed 2 of the Sows who just gave birth as I figured the other 2 Sows are still pregnant and would be non-accurate weights.
The biggest I have is 669grams. Inasmuch as these are 4.5-5 months old they probably won't get much bigger. Maybe up to 1kg within the next month.
I have read that they get reach as much as 2kg in less than 6 months, there the kind of figures I'm after!

I have also read that they average between 900grams and 1800grams at 9-12 months old.
