Truth be told, I was seriously contemplating one of those when I was originally building my system. But I couldn't find the sieve for a reasonable price, and I figured it'd be way easier to just use the GB as the filter.

They are a very effective filter but they have a very high head loss compared to other options.

I'm sure I could do it without too much head loss (not that it matters too much in a home system anyway).

The plan had been to have two outlets on either side that go to a MT tank automatically.

If you cannibalized something like a washing machine, replaced the drum with some stainless 60 micron mesh, and turned it into a rotating drum filter that has an automated sprayer to clear the solids off the side on every rotation, then I'd be impressed.

Well you should take two shots for that post.

But if you want me to design you that filter then you are going to have to pay for the parts and the labour!

You can actually minimize head loss very effectively by just increasing the width oh the container... headloss is resistance to flow which causes decrease in liquid velocity... if I design the filter to move slower ie decrease the velocity without changing flowrate.. just increase container perimeter..

Generally you are right cookie but with those ramped/slide screen filters the fall is crucial to the way they work.

They are an excellent filter design, simple, self cleaning and very effective but they do need more fall/head loss than many other filter types and can use a bit more water than many other types of filter.

IMO one of the most elegant screen designs is the DSM.

the lever on the side flips the curved screen mesh so the flow is reversed and it self cleans.

probably a bit elaborate for AP, and anyway we have media filled GB's
