Hsm........
4 dead fish, 2 more that wont make it. 1 has even ended up in the sump which i'm guessing must have been a pretty lucky jumper.
amm is 1.0ppm but i'm thinking that thats because of the dead fish not the cause as my PH is only 6.6 and the temp is only 15c.
the only thing that has changed in the system is i added a piece of insulation filter wool to polish the water as i'd stirred up a bunch of silt when I pulled a bunch of kale and silverbeet the other day, i'm guessing it might of been contaminated or have fire retardant in it, which is strange as i'd used the same stuff before with no problems.

the fish look fine other than dead, the other 2 I netted as they were semi floating, netted some others while dragging the bottom and they seem fine.
there was 31 fish to start with.

currently doing a water change and have all the air running that I can, chucked in about 2kg of salt to aid with stress, not sure how many parts there is now as there has been a bit of water changed since the blackout a few weeks back.

9 more dead this arvo although some of those may have been dead this morning.
I have killed and cleaned the other 9 remaining fish so I can change out all the water and get the system re established before the catfish come.

Sorry to hear about the losses. Was the weather heating up with the trout ? Sucks either way though.

Thanks mate, no the temps only 15c.
Not sure whats happened but I'll blame the insulation I used as filter wool as every thing else was normal and that was the only new factor.
Am draining the FT's and will refill tonight and run with goldfish till the catfish come.

Well the tanks have now been drained and I have re filled one FT with tap water which can pump through for a couple of days to gas off and then I'll add some goldfish out of the pond and fatten them up on some trout pellets.
meanwhile I'll get some uniseals on monday and make some improvements to my plumbing by adding 2 SLO's, one either side of the bottom IBC drain as thats where all the crap seems to settle in the tank.

Was hoping to hook up the RFF and newDWC bed this weekend but I can't find uni seals in ballarat any where.
oh well got the RFF mocked up just need to find something to hold the apron up thats better than zip ties coz they pull the barrel out of shape and the lid wont fit on properly.

barrel is a 30 gal, 50mm pipework with a 100mm flange on the skimmer and a 250mm apron.

emptied out the bath tub GB so I can swap it for a fibreglass one, I figure while I'm re-jigging the system I should smash out every flaw I can think off and hopefully have it all mickey mouse before the cat fish come.

arrows should work better to hold up the apron, still have a lack of uniseals so I wont be hooking it up this weekend like I'd planned

To all,

Thank you for being patient in relation to our eel-tailed catfish however this season we are unable to supply.

Before Christmas we emptied our 1 acre catfish dam and only a couple of hundred fingerlings were retrieved. We cannot explain why?

This has been extremely unfortunate especially since catfish are our most popular fish and we have had you all on this waiting list for this reason.

I can only tell you now to please try and source elsewhere if they are needed urgently or I can keep you on our waiting list and fingers crossed we do better next season or in the meantime we will try and source them from another hatchery to fulfil your orders.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Kindest regards,
