Doesn't it take a year or so for paw paws to bloom? Or is it not the same as papaya?

Yeh - I like the colouring as well and the whole plant just looks so healthy. Is using a lot of water though.

Have had a couple of flowers on it for a few weeks - they haven't really done anything though - not openned.

The Paw Paw is bisexual. No sign of females yet - but it is only quite small really - 1.6 meters tall.

Is the GB deep enough for the paw paw to fully develop roots?

Oh yeah, quite small at 1.6m, with a growbed of only 2.2m.

dt - seems pretty stable at this stage, though am worried what it might be like at 2 to 3 metres tall with fruit on it.

EB - small when compared to how big it might get. Is really just an experiment, so all is going well.

Probably - will just wait to see if it fruits first - otherwise will be wasted effort. I think it will be okay until then.

Our Paw Paws took about 12months to produce but that was in a dirt orchard so maybe they will be quicker in AP? But they were less than 6ft tall before they started producing. Bi sexual ones may do it quicker too.....
in any case, get a ladder! :)

System is chugging along. I am lucky that winter has been hot so far. Coverring the tank and sump fully has helped to keep temps in at night and using black plastic on the top and sides of the tank has helped to rise the temps in the day. The lowest the tank has got so far is 18 degrees. I till have bed continuously floodign and draining through the night.

Because of the lower temps, the perch are not feeding as well in the early morning, which means they are getting less food at present because I am not around to feed them at any other time during the week. I need to get my wife into the habit of feeding them during the middle of the day when the temps are highest.

Anyway - here are a couple of pics taken a week or so ago. Main purpose of the pics was to show that some of the sunflowers are in bloom. I will pull them out soon to make room for some more usefull stuff. Pocs also show just how much can be crammed into a grow-bed and how high you can grow stuff too. Sometime I will get a picture with me in front of the beds for height perspective. My cucumbers are all but stuffed (got hit really badly by the caterpillers (I still haven't got around to using some BT) and the beans and peas never really came up (I think the scrubbing process I put them through to remove the poison on them may be the reason ). Everything else is doing well though.

It still amazes me when you compare the size of the bed with the amount of growth... :)
