The aquasonic one is about $360. Had never seen this until you pointed it out Rupert - but sound like my thought re: using a standard timer wasw on the money. I reckon something could be rigged up pretty cheaply - may not be as effective as the $360 one, but would probably still do the job.

Won't be trying to do that - he would win hands down. I neither have the time nor technical skill that he seems to have.

Been looking at auto fish feeders, come across these:
http://ageofaquariums.com.au/category61_1.htm

First one is too small, the other doesn't have a max size but feeds ponds over 21 days....anybody had any experience/knowledge of this item???

Edit - just found some more info on it

If you are still looking for an automated feeder you might want to pull down the sites for either Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop's here in the U.S. Both of these stores carry items for hunters and fishermen. One of the items I know they do carry is a battery operated or solar powered motor that is either attached to a bucket/barrel hopper. These are designed for hunters wanting to attract deer, turkey or other game to an area or for winter supplemental feeding. Some of them are meant to be hung by a rope from a tree limb or have a pipe leg stand. The biggest problem would be adjusting the area the feed would be dispensed into.

I guess it depends a lot on your stocking levels.

If you are keeping herbivores maybe a good heavy coating of azolla and / or duckweed on the top of the pond will do the trick for 10 days or so.

The suspended magott / fruit fly / blowie traps discussed here on other threads also seems like it has potential for a small number of carnivores.

Also a few no-food days never hurts fish too much.

5 days with no food is no prob for the goldies at school.
