Ok with 20 years experience with Aquariums. And having to clean the tank every few weeks for water quality issues, to keep the fish healthy. That water used to go down the drain or on a few outdoor plants,
But now I am doing Aquaponics, that water is going into the grow beds. Today plus on other occasions since starting Aquaponics, I tested the Aquarium water before putting it into my system. The test results today were. PH 7.2 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0.25 Nitrate 80/160. it’s a 200ltr tank so I just did a 50% water change today, that’s 100ltrs of really good top up water for an Aquaponics system.

On other post I have said that I move my fish around a lot. And the indoor tank is like a safety zone for my prize fish the Barra. Come Feb/March I will be using the aquarium for my trout.

This could be why at three months and now at five months my system is fully cycled. With all the necessary bacteria working to grow the plants.

Can I have honest questions or advice on this subject only please!

I'm not sure what you're asking Blizzard?

You're taking water from the aquarium and putting it into the AP , so far so good. Starting systems with aquarium water is a regular suggestion to help with cycling an AP system but it isn't mentioned as often as it used to be. Is that what you're after or is it something else?

Cheers

No I was just trying to enter advice to the new people starting out. Yes a lot of things have been mentioned before this. But as there are new people everyday starting out, I thought I would post this so that they too could get the advice. Rather than have to look through the archives of advice if they new what they were looking for in the first place?

I only used to change water out on my aquariums for nitrate etc build up not for ammonia or nitrites. If you have them your biofiltration is not good enough.
I used to use it on pot plants or if I got slack dump it in the pond. Still have 5 aquariums but don't really use them. :)
Not into cycling with fish anymore, too much of a hassle but if you have used ( and I use that term loosely) cycled water its a good kick start.

Edit

Sorry only imho.

No that’s fine Sleepe, people are open to there thoughts on this post. I just change my aquarium water when I have the time. Only goldfish in there ATM. The Barra and Silvers are in the IBC outside. The filter came with the tank. Not the best by any measure.

That's the whole purpose of this thread:

Plus it might help out a new person to see an up and running system.

Expand your mind Katmac. They said man would never fly once. And nine months after the Wright brothers did fly they were still saying it will never happen?

Just remember,it was Blizzard that quoted that Utube gave better advice than Earthbound, because Earthbound was out of touch.
No offence Earthbound but it was said.

Actually dasboot. I just read an Email from You Tube today. Apparently TJ Bear has subscribed to my channel. He has 3452 subscribers and 326 video clips. I haven’t really set up a channel. I thought it was just a file where my six clips were kept. I will get my daughter to have a look at it this week sometime. She finished top of her school in computer graphics and art. As I have only had 730 views off my clips and just the 4 subscribers. So far.

In answer to the original question...

YES THIS HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE.
LOTS AND LOTS OF TIMES.

Also while we are on the topic of originality:

This is just four different types of bag filter. The last lot indistinguishable from regular paint filter bags. There are others that are more complicated and have more pleats to increase the surface area of the bag and allow for better rates of flow. They are also used for paint, brewing, plankton sampling all sorts of applications.
