My quail started laying today. A 44 degree day at my place. Now I know this has nothing to do with AP or guinea pigs but when I read yr post I started to think of other forms of protein for the family so I bought some quail chicks.

It's true they mature fast and are prolific layers. Easier to dispatch than chooks. I guess, anyway. I remember quail being my favorite when I was little but haven't had it since. Looking forward to building a quail Hilton and having a regular family feast. You'd never guess I was vegan for most of my adulthood would you?

Nice work Colours, I'm doing the same. Here are some pics of quail chicks that hatched about a week ago. They'll go over to the grow out cage in the next couple of weeks!

Azira, I've been interested in that breed for a while now. Just not sure where to find them, they seem as rare as hens teeth!

Love yr feeder great idea. I have many friends interested in taking some chicks to do same. Great was to spend less time grocery shopping.

From what I've seen they don't seem to be available in Australia. And I'm thinking if they are, they'd fetch a premium price. Shaving might just have to do, lol.

just thought I would mention a Guinea pig got in the chook pen and the chooks killed it! I have Indian Game and they are a bit broody, they are ok with me, I can slide my hand under them to collect the eggs and they don't peck at me but the poor guinea pig didn't stand a chance!

Omg they're so frigging cute! I thought they would be born pink and ugly. Oxytocin overload here. You know it's ok if you re-nig. No ones going to think any less of you. If you want to be factual about it, selling them at $8 a pop is still a decent investment.

I had a good read here. Interesting topic and I'm going to follow this all.

As a kid we did have a lot of guinea pigs. Dad needed food for the birds of prey that he had in the national park here. I knew what would happen with the little ones. we had a couple as pets and the rest where for breeding. Did not bother me at all.

Let the small ones grow and have a taste of guinea pig!

They are very cute, but they won't stay that way for too long. I at least have to try it once... However I'm quietly confident it won't be the first and last!
