Other parts of Australia keeping wild rabbits is illegal. Well VIC at least but I'm pretty sure about NSW as well.

I did read somewhere that it is illegal to keep "wild type" rabbits Australia wide.
Keeping domesticated type is subject to state laws which varies wildly, it used to be the case and probably still is that in N.S.W you had to be licenced to keep domesticated rabbits
Something about "if " the domesticated type survived in the wild it genes would soon be diminished thru crossing with wild types...

My quail started laying today. A 44 degree day at my place. Now I know this has nothing to do with AP or guinea pigs but when I read yr post I started to think of other forms of protein for the family so I bought some quail chicks.

It's true they mature fast and are prolific layers. Easier to dispatch than chooks. I guess, anyway. I remember quail being my favorite when I was little but haven't had it since. Looking forward to building a quail Hilton and having a regular family feast. You'd never guess I was vegan for most of my adulthood would you?

Shave 'em, then they'll start looking ugly enough! Actually, perhaps the hairless variety would be a more efficient breed to use for food?

Nice work Matthew and Colours, I am still very seriously considering having both GP's and quail in with the chooks when I get around to getting some (if they would get along of course).

If they came in bald and pink they could be miniature pigs

Pretty sure the fur comes of easy when you cook them
