But one think I'm a little uncertain about.. Say I'm able to produce 20v from a DC motor and use that to store and charge a bank of batteries to then power a 100watt bulb..

This is probably not a good question because I'm leaving out so many variables.

But for amperage would that be measured by the wires I use of the motor and battery bank or inverter that I would be using?

I'm not really accross this stuff as well as others but...

I think you would have to make sure your battery bank voltage matched the motor voltage. The amperage into the batteries is going to be deterimined by the out put of the generator. If you use really small wires it will make a difference because of the resistance but other wise not so much. When you connect the 100w light the current will be determined by the draw of the light bulb.

From what I got so far in my understanding If I am producing 20volts or so then I want my bank to be 12? Because I have 20v but because of whatever my amperage is from the motor to the bank it will..... Basically the higher volts makes it to where I can charge my batteries faster or at leat maintain power and charge level.. Idk I'm new to this and going off of what I know so far.. Hopefully gunugulla can help or someone...

My understanding is its kind of like I have 20gallons gravity fed into a 12gal tank and being pulled from the 12gal tank I need a maintained minimum psi(100watts) and to do that I keep my water level constant in my 12gallon tank.. Best way I can put it from what I know so far

Just did a bit of cleanup. This conversation was off topic for the already looooong good pumps bad pumps thread, so I made it Onepower's thread where the topic can be whatever he wants it to be.

A lot of your electrical questions can be answered here. Scroll down to the electrical section.
