Not seen Leeks mentioned (although one of Food&fish's posts has a photo that looks like them) anyone had good success with them?

Leeks grow really well in AP, keredg.

French Breakfast Radishes - they grow up rather than down.

And grow like a weed...

Leeks planted, doing a bit of research, apparently using toilet roll carton or similar stops the base turning green and you get a bigger white bit, handy in AP as they are limited in the depth they can go.

I'll do a few and see if it works (as and when i get the bogrolls emptied )

3 things for me

1. Kai lan (chinese brocolli)
2. Wombok (chinese cabbage)
3. Snow peas


Im sick of eating them ive had a never ending supply in one IBC over winter.

I just pull the leaves off or cut the stalk down so the plant remains established and it just keeps growing more and more.....

Im still struggling with the chinese veges but I think there is something in doing it like you Fero. The more that you pick it or cut it the more it grows.

There are some interesting plant comparisons between my AP and dirt garden. Everyone in these parts seems to be having an off tomato year (too much rain, not enough sun) and my dirt tomatoes are no exception. They're doing okay, but not great. However, my AP tomatoes are going nuts. I have a couple vines that are over 12 ft long and produce a cluster of 8-10 tomatoes every foot, along with some stumpier heirloom varieties.

On the flip side, my AP tomatillos are growing slow and haven't fruited yet, whereas those in the dirt are gigantic (really never seen any this big) and laden with fruit.

I'd like to be able to evaluate the plants in my mini-Earthan beds, but I installed these late in the season and the plants there are rescues from elsewhere.

When your talk about bugs Aphids and such I use a mix I have been using for years in the dirt garden also works in AP.

5 cups water
1 cup rubbing alcohol
1 teaspoon Dawn liquid dish detergent

Use a spritzer to spray the bugs.

For ants I use Boric Acid.

1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon Boric Acid

Put this in a blender and mix it good it will be a fine powder. Place it in a bottle cap (Beer type) and put it near where the ants are. They will eat it and take it back to the nest and kill it.

Slugs like my self love beer only they will drown in it I have not yet.

If nobody has suggested it -> gooseberries.
But be careful, they can go a bit nuts.

Lol. Yeah, it has been a while. My system is cruising along. No marron at the moment, but I have a heap of silver perch which will be ready to eat this summer. I'll probably run some rainbow trout over autumn/winter and start again with the silver perch next spring.

I was experimenting with the gooseberries and they went ballistic. I thought someone might find that info useful so I dusted off my login.

For the root veggies mentioned in these lists, what was the growing medium, I've used the clay balls and pea gravel, neither seem to allow good formation of my root veggies.
