It is winter here? You really don't notice these things in San Diego. I was complementing the growth he had because they are just now moving into spring.

It was 42C in town on Saturday... spring is the new summer!

Our state of Washington uses the same abbreviation, kind of throws us off unless we look close

yes I have been caught out like that several times myself, don't suppose Washington State will change it's abbreviation to save us the confusion.

U.s. congress will probably say "we are more important than everyone else so we won't change you should!"

Washington state was originally going to be named Columbia, after the river. The folks back at our capital, Washington, District of Columbia, felt that it would be too confusing. So they decided that it should be named after the middle name of the person who founded the state. It was a different George W. Bush than was president, and certainly no relation as this George W. Bush was African American. It must have worked because now no one gets confused between Washington state and Washington D.C.

I guess you'd be a bit miffed if your GPS took you to the State instead of the Capital

No, I would be miffed the other way around. I have no interest in the capital, but would be happy to show my wife and child where I grew up.

I looked at a weather chart for San Diego, it seems to have an incredibly mild climate:

"rarely below 7°C or above 28°C."

the same site listed Perth WA "rarely below 3°C or above 37°C."

I will be putting up shade sails soon, as the summer time is a bit harsh on plants, note when the plant info says full sun that does not mean full sun in Perth!
