Thanks for the code, that's a lot of libraries to find and download :)

Oops. Here's an archive with all the libraries required.

Also thought you might like to see the giant hole in my backyard that will eventually be a sump tank lined with duraskrim.

Great job, I will be following your progress. I am building AP raceways and found a cheaper alternative to pond liners.

Chiumanfu this is really awesome stuff. I'm in the research phase of creating controllers to automate a system and your work is really good.

I'll likely need less sensors in mine because I plan to utilize a vertical grow system like Nate Storey created for his company Bright Agrotech LLC (http://brightagrotech.com/). Eliminating the growbeds in favor the vertical towers I think will reduce the sensors, at least while the system is small.

Any plans to run this system on solar? Also you mentioned you didn't want to run your computer 24/7 as a server to host the data locally. Have you considered creating a server with a rasberry pi and then create a custom page with your own graphs/widgets? I've created a custom admin panel like this one (http://wrapbootstrap.com/preview/WB0T41TX4) but specifically for marketing and server data. I would imagine you could create something much better than Groovestream.

Hello Chiumanfu,

I have just started my aquaponics setup a few months ago and would like to use an arduino mega 2560 that I have, to control and monitor it. I came accross you setup and would like to use your software and hardware setup to get me up.

wonder if you would help me in this endeavour - I am a relative newbie with this.

Thank you for sharing this.

Vadi

Chiumanfu,

Very impressive. I have a a semi working Arduino system with pH, Temp and DO but yours is much better.

Thanks for sharing the code and pictures I shall try and replicate it :)

Cheers

Mick

Chiumanfu,

The system looks awesome. I have pH and DO sensors running on a mega but I am liking your setup much better. Did you happen to do any more work on the PCB layout? I think I will have a go at replicating what you have done.

Cheers

Mick

Hi,

I'm trying to make my first aquaponics system (a flood and drain system) and I want to make it automated. I want to have an arduino uno turn on and off my pump and test the pH levels at certain times each day. I bought an RTC from Iowa Aquaponics ( https://www.iowa-aquaponics.com/learn/a ... Automation ) and want to use it to turn on and off a pump at certain times. For example turn the pump on at 13:30:00 and off at 14:00:00 everyday. Iowa Aquaponics has an example code but it seems to be like a timer, in their code they have it set up to turn on for 5 seconds and stay idle for 20 seconds. I am looking for examples I can look at that do what I described. If anyone knows about some examples or has any idea on how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me out.

Thanks,

CCCAquaponics

A most interesting project, and a challenging one..
You make reference to automatic feeders, but I did not see a practical implementation..
I started by building the mechanical feeder, to prove it's effectiveness and now seek to control it...

What were you thinking of using..

My initial mechanical knock up..

There are many ways of coding this. The simplest example is to just use a couple IF statements.
Code:
  if (Hour == 13 && Minute == 30) {
    digitalWrite(pin, HIGH);
  }
  if (Hour == 14 && Minute == 00) {
    digitalWrite(pin, LOW);
  }

The variable names for Hour and Minute will depend on your RTC module library. As well, I would add some checks to make sure the pump only runs when it is supposed to, and of course, you will need a way of changing the variables and storing them in eeprom.

A bunch of people have PM'd me for more details on the shield design I made.

Here are the Eagle design files and gerber files.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/668 ... d-rev2.zip

Be aware. This design is not complete correct. The clearance on the headers to the right are not large enough for ribbon cable connectors. Also there is not enough room for the pH and DO stamps to fit properly. It tried to fit it all in to the limitations of the freeware version of Eagle but it's just not enough room.

I REPEAT... IF YOU MAKE THIS PCB, THINGS WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY.

I am just posting these files for the couple of people that wanted the files to modify for their own use.

Could someone upload the code to something other than dropbox? I am trying to download the "aquaponics_chiumanfu.zip" but I keep getting a 404 error.
