So i can stand farther away.

I think earwigs live in the ground under rocks and other flat things. A heavy sprinkling of Boric Acid and Diatomaceous Earth on the ground around your entire AP area might be a simple easy solution to prevent them from climbing into your growbeds.

Good luck with that in a media system.

One of the draw backs of media systems is all the refuges they offer to pests. Until their predators start appearing its a bit of a slog.

You could try running the system constant flood for a bit till they get the s#!t$ and go somewhere else. Why all this talk of war when theres a pasive aggressive solution!

Sorry for the delayed reply, been offline for a couple of days with work.

Ive decided to go for the diatomaceous earth route, have ordered 4.5kg of the stuff, will be here Wednesday.

Attached are a few pics of the beer trap warefare.... they deffinatly work as a control, just not a standalone solution.
i suspect being used in conjunction with diatomaceous earth barriers will bring things to a holt.

I would still go with getting some mantis's!! They are just amazing haha

I have also had massive problems with earwigs & have made numerous concoctions with beer, linseed oil, sugar & yeast, rolled up paper...

The best treatment & the most satisfying I have found is flooding the bed to surface level or just above (although the clay floats) & squash everyone of the little buggers as they try to escape. It does help if there is more than 1 person to catch the escaping critters.

I spent Sunday afternoon doing just this - I now might see my germinating seeds get beyound the 2 leaf stage.

The pictures were taken at night when they are the most devious.

Thanks for the tips, ive been physically removing them also, sometimes 200-300 a night whilst waiting on a delivery of Diatomaceous Earth.
My local nursery mentioned a plant that is lethal to earwigs, one feed and there a goner, ive forgotten its name but will pop up there today and find out and if he has stock, buy a few. Will let you all know what it is when i get home.
