Did you know...

When I first posted to this forum, it was my first post to any forum.

It was braver than the bravest thing I ever did which was to tell my dad to never attempt to make contact with me ever again.

Way brave!

I was among the first public Adelaide users of the Internet when Adam gave its BBS users access from the days when the net was in text only, and you had the option of seeing yahoo's 20,000+ links with the big graphics splash screen (20k), or the small version.

I was never really a participant, and would probably best be described as a lurker.

I read some stuff on BYAP as a guest and ... kind of.. noticed how much I didn't know about the universe.

I figured that if I didn't know as much as I should about aquaponics as I should, I probably didn't know about every thing else as much as I should.

So basically, Aquaponics in general, and BYAP in particular, made me decide that I wanted to be a polymath.

I didnt even know what a polymath was until I met BYAP.

So in spite of being Internet aware for many many years, I only became involved quite recently.

My point is...

Say something.

It doesn't hurt.

Google lets me see stats on my blog of where people visit from, what search words they use, what time, what everything... there is this thing that marketing people use when someone gives feedback.

only 1 in 10,000 actually voice their opinions.

What most people dont understand is that their voice is worth around 10,000 voices
ie if you say "Spam is disgusting" you are counted as 10,000 people. Nobody ever says anything about anything. A few weeks ago I bought two sets of wireless headphones that said they worked over 35m. They actually worked over less than 2m but the store had received no returns. People just expect things to fail and throw them in the bin rather than feeling disappointed and actually doing something about it.

Nobody had said a thing.

This was from Coles.

I have no idea if you want to stop being the many people who bought these things, but not one person had complained that they simply didn't work.

So, if you speak you have a voice.

That's basically the point.

To quote some thing I just recently said... "If you speak, you have a voice"

If nothing else say "Hi" or "Good Point!" or "Eh?" or I disagree".

Once you say something, everything changes.

If there was ever a forum where you could say anything wise, stupid, funny, misunderstood, anything, and not be judged for it, this place is it. I found my home here completely by chance.

Understand that am on a LOT of different forums in my attempt to learn 120 things in 20 years.

This place is genuinely something very special.

For example, I was almost illiterate by most people's standards when I first came here. I hadn't started my blog yet, and I decided that one minute per word would be a good place to start. So if you look at the early posts on my blog, or the first hundred or so posts on this forum, I would write write a post, then rework it on average of one minute per word. Just re-write it and re-write it.

I cant tell if that's within normality, but for a post like this, that would mean at least a couple of hours.*

BYAP didn't quite teach me to read and write, but just say something, and see how much it will change your life.

I know you're out there 1 in 10,000! :D

*still 40 minutes plus for this post :(

What was all the gibberish about? Just joking! I suppose I don't work in a normal retail environment, all of my customers lavish tons of feedback to me about products. Thankfully most of it is positive. I think that is mostly because I take critical feedback seriously enough to direct customers to products that are not failure prone. In the end our customers are usually taken care of regardless, but I do my best to sell them stuff that won't need replacing. Some times they listen to me, sometimes the come back and say they should have listened to me...

Yeah I guess.

I was actually very relaxed :)

I was just trying to point out how much of a difference participating has made to my life.

And to thank BYAP for it.

And all that other stuff I said.

And it was 2am

:)

I've learnt masses of stuff through these forums as well.

I've always been one to jump head first into a task, these forums kind of tell me if I'm about to run head first into a brick wall. Plus I like forums.

My main life plan is to just get BYAP to cover every topic I need.

Take this for example...

I wonder if I might be able to become a wasabi farmer with the use of a fridge, my solar panels from my boat, and a hundred metres of poly pipe.

I need to buy a 12v fridge for my epic adventure, and I also have an idle excess of solar power when I'm not on a solar boat adventure. Perhaps I could blend the two to make a cool house.

The last time I tried to coin a phrase, I found just one hit on google that pre-dated it, so I've decided to not even check any more. It's too heartbreaking.

So I'm claiming "cool house" regardless.

I'm hoping it will get so tangled up with music genres that I'll get away with it.

Anyway, I'm thinking of adding a freezer between my sump and grow bed, and a bubble wrap (pun intended - see "cool house") shade house to keep the coolth in to make a home for growing wasabi, and also extending the trout grow season.

But...

I'm reliably informed that if I don't finish the boat first, I'll be single.

So...

Ladies? "

Particularly anyone living on the Murray River

It's probably just the medication I'm on, but has anyone else had to double check that they weren't accidentally spelling "laddies" when they were trying to say "ladies"?

I'm still not sure if I've got that right.

You can't keep cold in, just keep air that has stored less heat from getting warmer, or exchanged with warmer air.

It's all legitimate prescription folks.

Even the single malt drip I'm on is prescription :)

But anyone who has ever read this thread can defiantly see the medication times. I'd love to delete a few posts, but forums with holes in them are horrible things.

Maybe I should just go back and add a <skip> link to a few posts :)

I never tried to figure out which posts you wrote while medicated... Sound like the start of a drinking game to me!

Some of my favorite drinking games include drinking a shot whenever Barbarella says "Duran Duran" and whenever Inigo Montoya says "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!"

Hi
Do you find that prescriptions drugs change your perception of time?
Whilst recovering from injury I found that morphine speeded up time.
Tremadol on the other hand slowed it down.
Tequila however altered my perception of distance.
Adventures in time and space.

As a baseline comparison gin leaves my brain functioning but my legs incapable of movement.
Too much beer makes me sick
Titus

The beer makes you sick because of all the gin you drank first. Liquor after beer, your in the clear, beer after liquor will make you sicker. Every teenager can tell you that one. ?esrever ni og sgniht sekam gurd tahw

It's actually dehydration in both cases that makes you sick, you end up drinking the beer quicker if you've been on the liquor first, if you're on the liquor after, you've just slowed down how much you're drinking. Drink plenty of water inbetween both drinks, and you'll wake up happy and alert, well mostly happy and alert.
