Over the weekend i have had 7 SP fingerlings die and the others are not looking to good, the large perch seem to be looking healthy, all the water tests seem to be fine, I have had this PH from the start of this fingerlings and there has been no change water temperature has remained steady. The next door neighbours have a large gumtree which has lately been dropping a lot of its flower and leaves into the system do you think that could have killed them. The fish still have a nice slimy coat on them but the gills do look a little swollen. Do you think they could have a parasite in the gills or do you think the on the very small seeds and bits of the flowers be clogging up the gills.

Yes the leaves can be toxic to fish in high enough numbers.

Ok thanks, guess I'm going to have to go to bunnings to get some stuff to make a better lid that doesn't let anything through. Does anyone have any cheap ideas?

Hiya Bunno, sorry to hear about the fish. I have the same problem with leaves and pollen but have not had any strange fish problems so maybe look at other things before using the leaves as a scapegoat. You say your ph hasn't changed, is the test kit faulty? Have you salt in your system? Have you just been doing gb harvesting?

I am getting salt to salt it but none yet, i have tested different water and the ph was different so i don't think it was faulty, and no harvest.

I am still getting fish deaths, I have stopped all the pollen and leaves getting in but now i can see that there is only 2 fingerlings left i see that the big ones to chase the little ones around a lot, so i am thinking that maybe the bigger ones have been eating or have a bite at the fingerlings as i have picked out 13 and only have two left and the two left are the bigger ones of the fingerlings. Has anyone else experienced this? The larger silver perch are about 25-30cm.
