Yup yup, capacity is approx 1100L. And that's a cubic metre of cracked gravel in that pile. I may yet need more.
It's 45cm deep, so hopefully I can grow a few things that will enjoy the stability.
It will be a mix of seeds and seedlings that go in there. I have a few bigger plants that are chilling in the garden that I might transplant too.

Got a full meal of mushies out of the box, not sure how the next flush will go though... Getting pretty warm now.
In other news, two of my chilli plants have flower buds! Yellow Siams and jalapeños for me!!ImageImage

Cursed myself. I referred to Lucky as "still floating around" which Joel pulled me up on. Now a week later he really was floating around.... Along with my favourite red-head koi (us part-gingers need to stick together).
Got some grass clippings in the pond when the lawn was mowed with a crappy mower with a dodgy catcher, and the warm weather turned the water pea-soupy in the space of about a day.
I blame myself for not bothering to clean it out and clean the filter, so I'm feeling rather stupid.
I have half of my plumbing together but it's still not in place yet. The never ending cycle of delays...
Unfortunately I had a car accident last week and it really threw a spanner in the works big time :(
The last month I've felt positively cursed. But, I just have to read the news to know there's plenty of people having a worse time than me, so onwards we march!
I did a 1/3ish water change and will do another tonight probably, and salt the system right up because there are a few who have lost scales after rubbing on the netting.
In better news, the dirt garden is loving the pond water!

We all seem to have crappy months every now and again. I've had some shockers, but all seems to be going well now.

Everything okay with the car accident?

Yeah all good, just an inconvenience being without my car for a few weeks really. The gentlemen behind me however will not be getting his car back - ever... Which I guess serves him right for texting while driving. No one was really injured, other than me having a sore back and ribs, so that's the main thing.
Daddy dearest has lent me his car for the week while he is away, so besides the sheer terror I feel every time someone comes within a few feet of me, it's all good lol.

I recently got ran over by a car myself a month ago while I was riding my bike, so I got a good sense on how you feel on how it causes much delay in whatever you are doing.. I just started my insurance paper work now that I'm able to walk again! What about you? Have you started your insurance paper work?

I've alway been nervous of tail gaiters but it took a long time for me to get over the extra nervousness after being taken out from behind by truck.

How long were you away or how long was your system unattended?

Sounds like quite a lot to happen and a lot of mayhem in the system for it to be just a few days or maybe a week.

Ah jeez guys, that is awful! Luckily mine was just a station wagon, and I was inside my nice, sturdy car at the time!
I was on the phone (bluetooth before anyone asks) at the time and I think she freaked out more than me.
I was only away for a couple of days, but my water quality was not 100% to begin with (still finalising all my plumbing so my filtration is limited to a canister filter which came with the pond). I'd just cleaned the filter again and it was slowly improving until the grass got in there. I really think it was the sudden hot weather change turning those grass clippingss to sludge that tipped it over the edge.

Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected I guess. I have been tempting fate a little bit.
Had I realised that the grass clippings would turn into sludge I would have made the effort to immediately remove them and re-clean the filter.

Oh well, the water changes seem to have helped immensely, and now it's salted to about 2ppt, just to help the fishies recover a bit. Now just to cross fingers and hang out for the weekend to finish the plumbing.

In non-AP news though, I made my first attempt at striking some cuttings a couple of weeks ago, and when I watered them today I noticed THEY HAVE ROOTS! Which means I grew a plant from what is essentially a stick! Go me!
They're just geraniums which , but it's a start and has given me some confidence to have a go at some other productive stuff next. Besides tomatoes, which are the best plants to strike cuttings from?

Things like wisteria thrive from cuttings, grapes are good too, passionfruit. I suck with non edibles though.

Have you gotten anywhere with Joel's system yet?
