If your pumping into the RFF you have already reduced its effectivness by macerating the solids before they get there, sure its going to remove any heavy solids that get through but in the ideal world you are looking at keeping the Feaces, food particles intact as they get to the RFF so as they can be removed,if they break up they are then becoming particles that are difficult to remove and are realising solids into solution which you don’t want.If your pumping out or the pond you might be better with a mechanical means to remove the remaining TSS from the water as opposed to the RFF which is better suited to heavier solids.
Secondly by pumping into the swirl then into K1 the TSS that gets through, will coat the K1 hindering its ability to work optimally, K1 ideal needs water free from suspended solids to achieve its real effectiveness.

Came in here to say this. Just add one more step between the rff and biofter to catch the suspended solids. It will decrease the oxygen demand in your biofilter and decrease your cleaning maintenance on the biofilter (unless you set it up as a moving bed biofilter which is self cleaning for the most part). Keep a small space open on the top of the biofilter to allow gasses to be released as well. I'm jealous of your pond, wish I could set something like that up at my house.

Thanks Samuel L. Loved your work in Pulp Fiction incidentally :notworthy: :)

Sounds like a cunning plan, the question is by what means?
Preferably compact.

I do have a spare 50 Litre drum that is used as a bio filter for my temp setup- it consists of reeds filtering through cut up pipes. This might just do it. Refer: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=15481&start=30 it's in the 4th picture down the page, see the drum with the reeds coming out the top?

This is not really compact though

Been pondering water scrubbing options to capture heavies

So here's what I am thinking:

Woolie pockets vertical garden recirculating water from the pond. The growing medium will be vermiculite / Perlite mix, (am keen for peoples view on this) this will stay quite moist so it should only need to run a couple of times a day. Theory being that the heavies will get trapped in the vermiculite Bam! - purty and functional.

Also worked out how to hide my barrel filters - BBQ ponics
