I don't think seasol has the amount of ammonia you need - its a plant tonic for micronutrients not to create ammonia to bring the nitrite/nitrate bacteria.

they sell seasol with added nitrogen that would work for fishless cylcle i would imagine, its called powerfeed. Green bottle instead of white.

Or you can buy your fish food in anticipation and just throw some fish food in and let it deteriorate.

Thought I should start getting in the swing of things testing the water. Haven't done anything like this since high school. I managed to fail chemistry, so we'll see how we go.

Pretty cool day here in Melbourne and the seedlings that I planted yesterday aren't looking super happy.

I cut a bit off the standpipe so that the water doesn't come above the clay pebbles.

Time: 6pm

Water temp: 16.7 C

PH: 7.6

Amonia: 0

Nitrate: 0

System has been going for two days.

How are these results looking?

Took the fish option. Was down at the local aquarium store and picked up five goldfish.

Aquaponics is GO!

Yep. Got the lid on. Might cut some holes in it to let in a few rays.

The goldfish are looking pretty happy. Hanging laps and eating. Image
The veggies however are sad and drooping. Image
Too much water in the GB? Not enough? What could be the problem?

Open to suggestions.

Thanks.

Added some shade cloth to keep out the harshness of the summer sun. Starting to warm up here in Melbourne.

Veggies coming along nicely.

Everything is coming along nicely. It's great fun heading home after work to watch fish swimming happily and veggies doing well.
