Aloe will grow virtually anywhere. I grew some on my driveway. Literally on the driveway in a pile of leaves. Very little sun, too much rain. I had one as a kid, in a pot, inside. No one watered it for 6 years. It was still alive.

Marigold regrow from seeds in mg GB's. the ones from seed seem quite hardy. They are good companion plants. I've used the GB's for cutting of a few ornamentals, and most have grown very well. I've had a bit of problem transitioning from GB's to pots though.

Thanks Guys, but I have one other question:

usually we are told to stress the plants so they produce flowers and fruits more often, and the way to do that is by not watering them for a couple of days...

but in aquaponic we need to keep the water running else the bacteria will die, so does your ornamental plants bloom just fine without that harsh treatment?

Ray, I've never stressed plants to induce blooms. Maybe use a bloomer fertilizer- high P, but never withheld water. They bloom just fine in an AP system.

Not many people do this or indeed have a system where they can do this. Ryan Chatterson is the exception and he boosts flowering by lowering the [NO3] relative to the [Phosphorus] and [K].

My boronia megastigma seems happy in aquaponics but then it is a swamp plant
