Engineering.

Here's what I am thinking for the filtration

This is the bit where I need the guru's to weigh in and help please!

Just looking at this now and I think I will need to elevate the inlet with an elbow (or 'p' trap or something) so that if the pump stops it does not empty out the solids filter back into the pond.

The pump resides at the bottom of the pond

Correction, the riser should stop it from draining out... I think.

Some more considerations. Indicated by arrows.

Should I post this in the hardware and plumbing threads to get advice on these aspects?

In theory this should skim out the poo as the plants take up water...

If your pumping into the RFF you have already reduced its effectivness by macerating the solids before they get there, sure its going to remove any heavy solids that get through but in the ideal world you are looking at keeping the Feaces, food particles intact as they get to the RFF so as they can be removed,if they break up they are then becoming particles that are difficult to remove and are realising solids into solution which you don’t want.If your pumping out or the pond you might be better with a mechanical means to remove the remaining TSS from the water as opposed to the RFF which is better suited to heavier solids.
Secondly by pumping into the swirl then into K1 the TSS that gets through, will coat the K1 hindering its ability to work optimally, K1 ideal needs water free from suspended solids to achieve its real effectiveness.

Thanks Dasboot,
I had to check your TLR's (three letter acronyms) before I could understand the post, so RFF = radial flow filter and TSS = total suspended solids. Got it.

This is interesting. I do want to leave the pump in the
Pond as it entirely silences any noise... It is 1.4mtrs below the surface. The flow of water at present is as follows:

Pump at bottom of pond.
Tee'd to:
1. a skimmer that catches leaves and floating debris. The skimmer simply runs under pressure expelling to a bag in the pond and recirculating water and particles not caught in the
bag,
2. Back to the RFF

This does not resolve the maceration of solids before the RFF but I do wonder how much the proposed design might minimise effectiveness?

Or what modification I should consider be it a mechanical filter placed between the RFF and the BioF or if I should reconsider the position of the pump?

Might be worth elaborating on what I propose for the autopots is this as a significant variation on a standard build. The plan is to have the solids from the RFF expel directly to my autopots. Having the solids macerated first actually assists with this as the lines are less likely to clog in the autopots. The existing system for my auto pots allows me to add nutrient in line as it is a closed system (not recirculated back to the pond). So I can up the Potassium or add nutrient as I see fit.

What I like about this idea is it takes everything from the pond and uses it.

I will still recirculate from the Bio to a vertical garden and possibly beds on the top of the wall or elsewhere.
Where it differs significantly is that I will not have garden beds full of water as in a traditional system. I am hoping that the K1 bio combined with aerating plants in the bottom of the pond combined with the surfaces of the rocks in the pond and rocks in the water fall will provide enough biological filtration for clear water to make it purty and that is suitable for fish.

I am not asking for much right? :D
