I'd contact the DEPI directly as there are allowances for the translocation of live caught fish for non-commercial AP systems. The link on their website goes to a login page so you'll have to get the specifics from them by phone or email.

Chances are they won't let you transport a noxious species, but it can't hurt to ask given AP systems are a closed system.

I was in the mood so I just sent them an email. I'll let you know what the reply is if and when they get back to me.

Just found an event run by Melbourne Water called 'Catch A Carp Day, held at Werribee river. Emailed the organised and he said you get to keep whatever carp you catch, with prizes awarded for most carp caught and biggest fish. No mention of legality. I get the feeling that prosecution would be highly unlikely if you were carrying a few fish in your car or had a few in a tank at home.

Thanks, Azira.

I'd be careful with that, in at least one of last years newsletters the DEPI mention that they had Fisheries officers attend the Werribee River "Catch a Carp Day", so chances are they have officers at all of them. Particularly given the DEPI fund and are involved with all Catch a Carp events.

So the Koi would be gang members then?

Was just reading this from CSIRO. They mention controlling carp with 'koi-herpes'.

Here's what the DEPI guy said.

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry. Our web pages are still under development, however, I can assist you with your enquiry.

Yes you are able to catch both species under a recreational licence, however, only redfin is allowed to be translocated and stocked. Carp is not allowed to be placed back into any water body, including tanks, as it is a listed noxious species and needs to be destroyed.

Please review the attached form and if you can meet the requirements, please complete the form and return to me by either email or post.

Please call should you require additional information.

Here's a link to the application form he sent me as it has the conditions for stocking in aquaculture systems: http://s000.tinyupload.com/download.php ... 8804699281 Let me know if it doesn't work.

Maybe just stock goldfish instead of carp. Same family and all, just as hardy and you can eat them if you want.

Is the link dead or is it taking you to a tinyupload.com page? If it's the latter you should see a highlighted link that says "Secure Aquaculture system application only.doc" which will give you the download prompt for the file.

I can attach it here as a .jpg file if anyone wants, but they'll have to download it and change the extension to a .doc before viewing. I was going to try that initially but I figured it's too fiddly.

Lots of carp around Canberra and the Murrumbidgee, QLD waterways plus pretty much everywhere else.

If you like em big..... (as only QLD can)

It is the basis of the Charlie Carp fish fertiliser you buy at Bunnings et al.
Not sure of their operational basis, but the web page is http://www.charliecarp.com/

and - in most/pretty much all States it is a declared noxious pest, with same restrictions.
as for Koi etc....http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/fisheries/pe ... -fish/carp
