hello all!

I have been thiking about aquaponics a long time now and i have 3 goldfish with plants in a small aquaponic setup for 2 years now. this is where my growing and fishkeeping knowledge stops.

i am thinking of building a 4000 sm uncovered (net covered is also a possibility)
aquaponic setup (only plant part will be uncovered) as a flood and drain where plants will be rooted in netted pots which will go in plastic tubes with holes

i think i can do it uncovered because were talking about island of south Italy and here the plants will suffer from the too much sun, if at all.. also water is kind of rare as well as good soil

any suggestion is welcome

one question for now: what is the maximum lenght of the tubes so they flood and drain effectively

So you are going NFT with full sun on the pipes ?
40°C water won't grow anything. you will need a costly water chiller

3 goldfish nice, on commercial scale you need 40 kg of fish / m3 at least ; not the same things
(unless you can sell fish 20€/kg)

and for your question,

You don't flood and drain in NFT (?)
Where will bacteria be ? in the 40°C pipes ?

4000sm (square meter right ?) with youre knowledge (at least what I can see from 1 post) seems like you are going into a wall, at high speed... sorry for being honnest

Yes its a big step up from a small system. It would need to be designed by an expert so that the parameters are set up correctly.

what sort of crops and fish were you thinking of?

it will also need to be operated by an expert...
Things go really fast when everything is properly done, including faillure.

Price to farmer for a soil lettuce , in France (not really far...) is in the 0.05 to 0.40 € cts

Aquaponic CAN'T do that.
