Love your work Matty and family. I am too looking at the slaughtering side of things at home but struggling to get the family on board. Usually with my roo trips I am away from home and I think Mrs Charlie turns off to it. She is a veterinarian nurse too which is the worse possible scenario if you could imagine. My young bloke is ok with it but my 13yr old daughter wouldn't hurt a butterfly. I'm in trouble.

Just watched the video, thanks for that. Glad it ended up tasting good, hope the kids enjoyed it too.

Get yourself one of the traffic cones and cut the top of a bit, fix it upside down at your required working height. You then put the chook in it and pull the head through the cone, cut it's throat and let it bleed out. Less fuss, less mess and you do not get the meat going tough from the chook running every where.

Thanks Charlie! I empathise with you mate. Having Mrs Charlie as a veterinary nurse certain stacks the odds against you.
I'm able to get in early with the kids, and I'm in a great position to have my wife on side.

Cheers ccBear, brilliant idea! I have seen this method on YouTube. I reckon I'll give it a try on my next slaughter.

Finally got myself a Boar for breeding!! he's a good size. I'll put one of the Sows in with him tomorrow for a coupe of days! Here's a pic of Him:

Here are the two Sows:

The 2 Sows are currently separated from the Boar with a divider (plastic mesh so they can still see and smell each other) in a 4ft glass tank:

I'd say within 4 months we'll have some good size pigs for the first chow down :headbang:

Looking forward to the 'products of conception'. Is that just the breeding tank or their forever home? I used to keep mice in a glass aquarium, they stank, even tho mum made me clean them out with domestos like every day. Maybe mice stink more than GPs. I remember it vividly, I was so young. Hopefully you are playing them some amorous music...

So once you've had your first cull and feed, can you do an experiment for me? Do a trial with some batches feeding them up on herbs like rosemary, parsley or some garlic, see if that changes the flavour? Lol, this could be groundbreaking stuff, great way to feed the masses. I can see you at a farmers marked with a BBQ, some skewers, satay sauce and serviettes.

Haha :laughing3:
I think it might take a doomsday post apocalyptic type scenario before I started BBQ GP at the local farmers markets lol!

Yes, at this stage that is their forever home. I will be building a tractor for them in the near future so they can graze on the lawn. I have bred mice in the past and concur that they are stinkers. But GP are actually quite good in comparison. They are outside with fairly good ventilation.
