Are you human?: Any alternatives?

And they fly (as much as chickens do) up to the raised beds? Ours appear too stupid.

No they don't fly up, I don't think chickens have figured out that we can grow veggies without soil using fish poo! :headbang:

Well, after the winter hibernation, I'm back and ready to talk all things AP.

Statement:

My Silver Perch went completely off their feed over winter and hardly ate a thing. I fed them every 2-3 days without much action on their part, not to mention they didn't seem to grow at all.

Question:

Is this normal for Silver Perch?

Totally normal for silvers. They slow down in the cold and go off the feed. Should pick up their feeding over the next month or so

Good to hear its normal, I was starting to think they might be stunted and weren't going to grow much. Next time I might go with Jades or Barramundi, something that grows faster in the colder months. The amount of nutrient supplement I had to use to keep the plants going was crazy.

Barra and Jades don't like the cold either though. At least silver perch will survive the cold, Jades and Barra will both die off or at least be very susceptible to illness in cold weather. If your Silvers are big enough not to get hassled by trout you could maybe grow them during the cold season? They're nice and quick to grow out.

If I've read correctly Matthew is in SEQ, do we have low enough temps for long enough for trout? Very interested!

Good point, I'm not sure! I think it was prolonged water temps above 22 degrees that really upsets trout - is that right guys?
Have a search on here and there will no doubt be a thread on it :-)
In seq you might well have enough warm weather to see out a Barra season if you buy them slightly more advanced?

How long till trout grow to plate size generally? Might be just enough time?

I think advanced Barra might be big $, and from memory you need to keep heaps of them so they don't get territorial. (Not saying don't do it or that I'm right, just remembering from late night browsing!)

Theirs a place you get get freshwater prawn which will breed in captivity I can find for you if you are interested?

Advanced Barra would be pricy I'd imagine. Yeah if I was going to use Barra I'd want to but at least 25 in 750ltrs of water for sure. I wouldn't want prawns alone, but if the can live in community with other fish I might be interested.

I've been following Rob Bob on YouTube and he has both silvers and jades in his new RAS. The silvers hardly grew during the winter here in SEQ while the jades grew 2-3 times faster.
