Would it be advantageous to connect the 12v adapter to the pump as well and let it run 24/7?

You have to read this thread - good info in there.
The diagram on page 3 is the easiest to understand.
12v pumps are not designed to run 24/7.
My friend told me to put a 3amp fuse between the 87a and the positive on the pump.

** edit I meant the positive on the pump (admin change if you want)

looking at running 4 x 2.5amp bilge pumps in our 2 systems (10amp all up) & was wondering what batteries folks would recommend ? Would like to run them all off one if I could..

The most we have ever lost power for was the 2011 floods & that was just a safety precaution.. The longest black out other than that was about 3 hours..

Are folks opting for a deep cycle or would a heavy duty truck battery do the job? I really have no idea when it comes to batteries..

A bit more info required... Firstly, are you planning on running these pumps only as a backup, or are they the main system pumps? Are they 12V pumps, or are you using an inverter?

Just as backups as mentioned Gunagulla.

10A * say 5 hours = 50AH, I'd go for something like a Staunchcell 55AH gel, which can survive quite a few discharges to dead flat. I've just bought 4 of them, for a UPS for my house and for the AP backup, running 2 in series for 24V.
Run it at the recommended float voltage via a suitable charger/power supply, or PV solar panel and regulator if you want extended backup.

Got two 80AH deep cycle marine batteries for my electric outboard for the boat and they hold a lot of charge. I have run my whole three systems for an hour on one of them. Thats 4 water pumps and one big air pump. Havent tried to see how long it would last as have given up on backup systems as the relays were always unreliable for me.

You want to avoid discharging more than 50% of your batteries Ah capacity. If you intend to use 50 Ah, then get a 100 Ah battery.

As the OP wrote, blackouts don't generally last more than 3 hours, which is 30AH drain, = 55%DOD, so 100AH would be a waste of money. The Staunchcell's spec sheets say they will do four hundred 100% discharges, (& 1200 @50%) and given 3 hours is the normal maximum duration, why spend twice as much on a 100AH battery?

Finally we hAve backup - works like a charm - went with free 7ah alarm battery because it was free - using Icemans 2.1amp little red bilge pump with Venturi

Would like the extra as even though we only have short blackouts you never know when another 1 in a 100 year flood will happen
Think I'll go shopping later & see what I find battery wise..


Are they all hooked up through one relay Mantis or do you have/need a separate one for each?

Just had a blackout from 6:15 am till 3:50 pm today

However - as i have backup, she is all good

Never, ever under estimate the need for one of these as power "can" and "does" go out for longer than 10 mins

I will stop the feed and check AMM etc tomorrow night but they is happy fish still
