Lmao Scotty, I remember that :)
Charlie- I wouldn't call myself a goat expert but like Kat said we have mostly Lamancha goats but then I have 1 large Saanen and 2 of her babies that are Lamanacha x Saanen (Samancha). 14 total right now but selling a few of the boys in the next couple of weeks. These are dairy goat breeds and I raised them all like pets b/c that's what we wanted to have. I have neighbors that grow mini boar goats for meat and they are completely different animals. Almost like sheep, very scared and much more "wild". Ours run across the field when they see us b/c they want to be pet :)

So... It really comes down to what you want. If you want more of a pet, get a female and buy her as a "bottle baby" (at least that's what they call them over here) meaning that they were hand bottle-fed as babies. Also, theyre heard animals so they appreciate having a buddy to hang out with (dog, another goat, etc).

I just finished up with the International Recirculating aquaculture conference in Virginia and my presentation went over great. I also got to see several new innovations in the aquaculture industry that no doubt have a place in the future of Aquaponics. Extremely good conference!

Chris- there were 2 days packed with multiple 1/2 hour presentations happening in different ballrooms at the same time so too much to go through completely but some of the highlights for me were PR Aqua's model trout farm RAS system which was low head and extremely efficient use of space. Some other talks on advanced filtration methods, a talk on the addition of cork to feed pellets to increase SG Of waste and filtration efficiency, several talks on multitrophic systems and analysis of the byproducts as possible use for feed additions to minimize fish meal use, denitrification studies, and several worldwide industry experts (Summerfelt, Lasordo, Gaumet, Penderson, etc) talking about large scale production and doing round tables answering questions.

There was also this new "invention" a guy had that could hold a bit over 1lb fish/gal using no airstones or lox, just an engineered fitting that would pressurize O2 above saturation with normal atmospheric air (under vaccum)while degassing the nitrogen. It provides the flow and O2 with no bubbles in the culture tank. He had it set up in an ibc but im waiting to hear back on what it can to a larger tank. Could be Extremely cool.

I was one of 2 AP talks... There were supposed to be 4 but 2 people were no shows :/
The other was David Love with Johns Hopkins University presenting the results of a large survey they took last year (many hear took it). Good talk.

Kimo- it wasn't recorded unfortunately but I got a very good response from the audience.

I will be presenting a longer version of this talk at the Aquaponics association in a couple of weeks but after that will post up a recap with results.

Teaser: Close to 3600 lbs produced during the trial...

:)

On my way to San Jose with about 150 slides of new material that I will be presenting. I'll see some of you there... To the rest wish me luck!

Also just hooked up with another restaurant (who wants all my tilapia and a large qty of produce) so full steam ahead with the expansion!

Nice on the new restaurant business! How much tilapia are you producing?
