What do you use for calcium supplement? If you are using calcium carbonate I understand why you have calcium deficiencies.. Calcium carbonate is not very water soluble.. I have tested this by measuring with GH test kit, calcium hardness test kit and with EC meter.

300 pages should keep me busy for awhile :)

Thanks for Taking the time out to answer. I am experimenting with letting my mineralization tank go anaerobic.. Do dropped from 6.7 mg/l to 3.7mg/l after only 2 hours of turning off water supply valve to mt from RFF.. Shall see tomorrow morning what's going on in mt as far as EC readings, ph, DO and nitrates.

OK the links are http://www.wefnet.org/mopnew/Operation_of_Municipal_Wastewater_Treatment_Plants/ and choose chapter 31 for aerobic digestion. you can go through the rest of chapters if you like.

and http://digital.lib.usf.edu/content/SF/S0/02/74/43/00001/E14-SFE0003127.pdf for anaerobic digestion.

THANK YOU COOKIE.

I've been angsting over what waste water treatment text to purchase off amazon for a while now. That link means I can put the decision off for a bit.

no problem Stuart.. I do a lot of research in that field because its the closest to aquaponics mineralization of waste to nutrients.. if I get anymore documents I'll share them as well.

Umm good read there Swed. but I guess denitrification can occur quickly in an aquaculture system as you can see for yourself.

Cookie, First time I've looked through your thread. Looks great! How deep are your GB's? You may have answered these earlier, but I'm too lazy to read the whole thread. Do you skim water daily from your mineralization filter? How long does the water stay in the filter? Your toms look fantastic!

well thanks fod the complements.. umm my GB are constant floods with a depth of 1 foot. water level is about 8 inches in height in the GB. my offline mineralization tank is an anerobic digester and I usually take out bout 10gals of water from there each day and add it to my system.. however it does increase my overall amm levels in my system. but they usually drop off by the end of the day.. but I forgot to test for nitrite.. seems like I spiked it a bit with the additions. will have to wait a bit for it to come back down.. sigh..

The testing can drive one mad at times... I feel the same from day to day.. You think you have it figured out and then... BAM! Something you didn't think about happens. I don't want to hi-jack your thread but I wanted to post a diagram of my system so you can see how I have it hooked up currently.

I am thinking about using the mineralization tank with air stones to get a quicker mineralization of solids and only use the rsg to control my denitrification. (That is if it's effective enough)

Have you used molasses as a carbon and energy source for denitrifcation? I figured I would try to add some to the rsg filter. Molasses contains something like 1% sodium, 14% Potassium, 4% Total Carbs, 10% Magnesium, 20% iron, and 15% calcium.. That should make for a good source of energy as well as keep pH up. What do you think?
