I may have posted those before. Hmmm... you may be right on the wireframe tank. I seem to recall that thread.

El cheapo is an understatement. Two 8 foot diameter tanks were under $100.00. The only drawback was my redclaws ate through the lining on the folds. Because of that, i would probably go the epdm route next time. Don't think a seam would be too much trouble.

I did just find this... a supplier of heat exchanger tanks for solar projects. Looks like they use the folded method. Not for use with yabbies!!!

Could be... I know it was posted on the soalroof greenhouse site and also on gardenweb at some point...

I am finding that butyl rubber is supposedly weldable. That would make things easier...Not sure if approved for aquaponics but i did see one site that say's it's approved in the UK for potable water storage..... might be a better way to go....

Don't know why you didn't go for a second hand above ground pool. My daughter got a really good one which included a salt chlorinator vacuum cleaner etc for $300. Its at least 18000l.
Just sell it when you move (buy in winter sell in summer). :)

I've looked at them as options but while a tank is a tank a pool is a pool even if used as a tank. That means I could get into strife from the council for not having pool fences and the like.

With a neighbour almost guaranteed to dob me in it is not a risk I can take.

I spoke to my Dad who is a bit of financial guru and he got all logical on me. Turns out the best solution is the Elcheapo because with my limited funds I should preserve my funds for other things that i am going to need to be spending money on shortly.

So I found a deal on a top quality liner I've been looking at for a while that is UBER tough with a 100 year or building life time warranty (whichever is longer). The hippy in me that objects to our disposable society couldn't face using greenhouse plastic for a tank even though I agree that it probably was the more sensible option.

This liner is weldable with a blow torch and roller so I'll be able to form it to the tank shape.

That means that later I can keep it as a storage tank or as a fish tank If I want :)

Normally this stuff is about $20/m2 but I got a deal :D

Hey Poppa, loving those tanks.
What is the middle layer of that tank? The one between the reo (re-bar) mesh cage and the liner?

Well, it's pretty secret stuff, normally sells for $1000.00 a square foot but my dad got me a real deal. I'd have to kill you all if i told you what military installation it was found laying around at. You just have to clean off all the depleted uranium dust on it, but i found a neighborhood kid who wasn't doing anything and was happy to work for a cold glass of kool-aid.

It's just fanfold insulation, the stuff they put on the side of a house before putting the siding on. Also, that "rebar" is just standard fence wire from the box store. bendable by hand. Nothing special.

100 years, Stuie? I hope you got that in writing...

I don't think they expect me to be around to make a claim.

This product has been used quite a bit in Europe but not much elsewhere. The only place it has been used in Austraila so far is in Gippsland.

http://www.latrobevalleyexpress.com.au/story/1487770/open-cut-in-spotlight/

When the Morwell river broke into the adjacent open cut coal mine this is the liner that they used to repair and stabilise the new river diversion canal.
