Don't count on it. I've never washed much gravel because I soon learnt that no matter how many times I washed it it still seemed to cloud the water when used. Mind you I've not used particular gravels because they had too many fines in them.

Actually Bcasey2703, I was going to congratulate you, as you have taken my idea and added in some of your own ideas, and it seams to be working for you, I cant wait to see the new setup, maybe I can find a few new ideas from you in the future, that’s my whole idea on here, lets help each other on ideas, that’s the best way to make things better for all, better plants better fish, I am not here to change others, but maybe just poke them a bit so they get off the this is the way it has to be ideas! When you build your own system it is your own work of working art, I am really happy as to how my system is working now, and I suggest you are happy with yours! As you made it your way! I cant wait for your new setup, I hope you don’t mind in advance that I may want to use some off your ideas?

Cheers mate,

That’s very supportive there Stuart, (NOT!)
Are you on medication or at least seeking professional help? Have you thought off contacting beyond blue? Its only been a few weeks, but I have notice already that you have a server problem talking to people online? I do wish you seek help soon,
:naughty:

Blizzard, whoooa there buddy. Stuart and bcasey chat enough that they can share a friendly joke about gravel dust. I think you need to stop putting a negative slant on every little thing that Stuart says. You might not like his no-nonsense attitude, but he has offered advice to myself and others which has helped immensely.
He has never personally attacked you, merely pointed out flaws in some of your ideas, or offered alternatives.
Remember that these forums exist pretty much forever, so people spruiking experiments as gospel can mean someone researching down the track might get the wrong idea.
It doesn't mean you shouldn't experiment, it just means that sometimes slow and steady and watching the results is the way to go, before declaring a complete success.
And sometimes, there are things that are just plain wrong, and there's no two ways about it. It's often easier just to say so and move on, by learning from others' mistakes.

Anyway, I'm glad your system is working for you, and trying different things is great. It is indeed how we learn.

But please, this forum shouldn't be a place for personal attacks and insults. That's what Facebook is for ;-)

But seriously, I've seen some very dire consequences of online bullying, and there are school students using this forum - I would really hate to see them getting the wrong idea about how we treat each other here.

You aren't doing yourself any favours with comments like that Blizzard. I suggest you just stop and think before you post as comments like that reflect more on you than the person you're making them about.

You can choose not to respond and engage, and sometimes it's the best way to respond.

Gravel dust is almost impossible to completely clean off gravel so whenever you agitate move gravel you resuspend gravel dust in your water.

Yeah Blizzard, I like my filter, and I'll keep updating on my thread, feel free to borrow anything, though there's probably better systems out there. I have a diy filter addiction I think, every time I walk thru a store I'm like "could I use that?".

And all good with Stu, he's helped me HEAPS so I know he's coming from a good place. As Kat said rather more succinctly then I have previous, he has no-nonsense style of writing, but I wouldn't ask him to stop, who else would answer all my questions!

And yeah Stu, gravel dust will always be the bane of my systems with my free gravel, but I am happy with my diy settling it quickly :)

I like Kat.

I think we should name her our honorary BYAP forum Mum. She likes to step in the middle before things start to get thrown at each other. :headbang:

She's got an insane post count, but I hardly see her around.

But yes, Jaymie can be honorary Grandma! (and I have no idea how old she is, so apologies if that's taken badly.).
