So, I recently was given a used 55 gallon fish tank which I intend to use to create a small, apartment sized AP system. I was rinsing it out the other day to start prepping the tank, testing the seams, etc... when I was greeted with the smell of cat urine...

Initially I thought this a bad thing, but then remembered reading about fishless cycling with pee ponics. Could this be a blessing in disguise, or should I attempt to clean it out really well (vinegar scrub then steam clean, etc.) and start anew... or should I just pass on the free tank, and look for one sans the cat piss?

Thoughts?

Car can carry some very nasty diseases, many of which can be passed onto humans, usually through contact with their faeces since they crap anywhere and everywhere with gay abandon.
However, I'm not sure how most of these pathogens would or wouldn't be an issue after aging in a bacteria filled tank. Personally I would just scrub the bejeezus out of the tank before using it.

Agree with katmac. 10% bleach solution would do the trick as well.

Alright, that's the way I was originally leaning. I'll be breaking out the gloves and scrubbing it down with vinegar and steaming it up to hopefully kill any nasties. Thanks for your input!

No it’s the house that smells like cats, I don’t, well I didn’t like cats before, but I am getting used to them now, but I have always loved my daughter so she can keep the cats,

So I take it you don’t do houses?
:laughing3: :dontknow:
