Stellar idea! It's one step up the coolness level of cafés with Kitchen gardens.
A sump under every table lol ;-)

Thanks Katmac, yeah the whole integrated garden thing is tops, and if I can get it right with aquaponics even more interesting. Plus having fish and giant prawns (my long term goal for stocking) as something to peer at will be tops. Plus obviously some savings on food costs, one of every cafes biggest issues. Plus the coolness of walking out the back and getting fresh produce.

Obviously I have to learn how to grow as well ahaha!

Looks like I am close to being cycled again which is tops!

Holding off on plants and fish until I move.

On good news, caught some prawns whilst fishing today in a dam, once I get system moved, pretty keen on putting prawns in!

Really expected to see a bigger nitrite spike with the addition of your housemate's body to the system...

So I'm now a "Valued Contributor"...... Is it weird that makes me happy? Hopefully get photos up over next few days of new AP site, I'm thinking room for 2 FT, and at least8 GB's! Was at sight today, and sunlight positioning is tops, which I'm happy with as current home position is quite poor! Only issue is it is a L shaped spot, so tough on green house long term..... Maybe have to rethink?

On another note, does the forum regulars have a Facebook page?

The advantage of facebook is that it has instant feedback and PM's are live :) Good if your in a tickle or helping someone do a build

Not aquaponic related technically, but furniture concept going ahead today, and I built something! (I'm not technically handy with these kind of things! Plus I used one of this forums favourite things!

Poor photo, but getting there!

Back to aquaponics! All readings now at zero, so I am cycled, huzzah!

Photos!

Image
Water nice and clear! At least it is in real life, doesn't come up that way on photo! I need to pull my finger out and syphon the bottom!

Image
Peas are flowering.... Progress!

Image
I have broccoli growing.... Ok it's real small, but I've never grown broccoli before so I'm stoked!

Image
Basil is sprouting from some seeds I chucked in, I'm pretty happy with it since it's cold at the moment!

Image
This is something I need advice on, it's little drops of water that are "beading" (best word I could come up with), in the sump. I grabbed some and it isn't oily or anything, is it just from movement maybe? It reminds me of oil on top of water, but isn't oily.... Might just be some weird science/plant thing ahaha

Image
All my Syphons dropping.... I just thought it was cool!

Image
All the pieces of my worm farm filter out for my weekly clean (takes 10 min), sponges, green scrapers, microfibres clothes, paint strainer and shade cloth.... All in tiers in an old worm farm..... Clears my water up super fast!

Anyway, still attempting to work out a plan for moving all of it to the cafe, but it's frustrating me not being able to plant more or put fish in.... Wait will be worth it!

In the last photo the water is the dirtiness from cleaning, still pulling heaps of dust out even though water is clear. The "beady" droplet in the photo above where I asked advice on, the white "drops" look like they are splashing in the photo, they aren't they are like sitting on top of the water, as I said, it's weird.

I was a good boy and snuck in some toes to a haha! :laughing3:

So are these the infamous aphids I have heard so much of?

Image

Also one of my three fish died. Remembering these are the ones that lived thru the great flat mate disaster of July 14, so I'm assuming poor bugger just lasted as long as he could. Any ideas what this is?

Hmm looks like aphids to me, but the ones I saw on the weekend were darker. Maybe just different types?
I found a whole stack of them on a dandelion weed. I've heard of some people actually keeping one or two in their beds as bait-plants.
Try and keep the ants away as they will protect and 'farm' aphids for the honeydew.
