I had someone send me to the above article saying "people in Hawaii are saving 90% on their power bills", and that this has been trialed by some of the top aquaponics people who thought it was great.

Peoples thoughts? Didn't this get bought up a while back from a video of Glenns, but the consensus was that it used more power than a submersible pump?

A little disappointing that this is info put out by a Dr at a university, seriously lacking any information, does anyone have any further info?

I saw this last year on Aquaculture hub (let me find the link to the video presentaion)

It looks good and promising, but i havent tried to set it up, I dont know about "saving power" but it does look to be a way to get a much higher head out of an airlift.

One of the things they say it is really good for is having your "expensive" pump indoors, they mention that if thye had a normal pump outdoors in hawaii or samoa or somewhere that it would be stolen in a day - maybe not in the above link, but in a video i saw about it.

The whole "step by step" theory of it is something i wanted to copy and experiment with one day if i get time.

I'm happy to be corrected but every time I've looked into this sort of thing it fails to impress.

The most efficient appropriate compressors or blowers I have found if every liter of air translated into a liter of water pumped to the peak efficiency pressure of the blower you would have a pump that was at best 49% efficient.

To asses how efficient one of these pumps is you need to know the power draw of the air pump, the flow of water and the height to which that water is delivered. I have failed to find all of these details in any of their installations so it is impossible to asses their claims. Based on the theoretical constraints of the efficient blowers I've sourced it just doesn't stack up.

I don't know about what was mentioned earlier about this but it seems like from the webinar that the output is about the same as an efficient water pump but with some advantages as far as cleaning and probably replacement costs, maintenance and theft protection. Based on the seminar though electrical costs wouldn't be the main reason to use it since a good Laguna pump or equivalent would pump as much or more for the same wattage.

Of course it might matter what you had as far as head height and it sounded like lowering the piping from the tank gave you higher pumping ability so there may still be a way to save money on electric but there weren't enough details to really figure this out.

It might be but every video I looked at didn't give all the information required to calculate the efficiency.

Some had the power, some had the flow, some had the lift but none of them had all three.

If there is one that I missed then I'd appreciate the figures.
