Desktop Duckweed Update:

Decided to move all the duckweed incubator batches into clear plastic cups and "to-go" containers, saving the opaque ones for things like sprouting seeds (Spaghetti Squash seedlings are shown in this picture).

Seeing the monitor and cables next to cups of water just makes me nervous!

I pour drinks into my computers all the time and I'm fine.

Except for the fact that I pour drinks into computers.

But I'm getting counselling for that, so I should be fine about that in no time.

Which is nice.

I've got the problem of too much duckweed ATM as I don't have any fish to feed it to yet.
Will be getting some free koi early next week, so I hope that they'll eat some of it.

It most definitely doesn't like a high pH. Mine started going white and dying when my pH dropped to 6 or below. Rectified that issue and it bounced back in no time.

Does anybody know the best way to store it so once I get fish I've got extra?
Was thinking about maybe freezing or drying or drying a little and then freezing.

Also didn't have much luck with azola. Was going pretty good for a while, but then it got cold and pretty much died out, although there is still some clinging on to life :-)

Bit confused by this.

Doesn't like high pH but low pH will kill it?

I always get those mixed up. It doesn't like the water to be acidic.

People freeze it all the time. Dehydrating it is supposed to make it better as a feed, as the water content of duckweed makes it too bulky to be of use.

Was thinking about maybe semi drying it and then freezing it maybe.
I may find that I have enough duckweed in just the 1 tank.
It's about 2.5sqm of growing area in that tank that won't have fish and almost 3sqm in the tank with fish. So have 5.5sqm of duckweed growing atm and it's pretty damn thick.

I had to close down my desktop duckweed plantation - I was working on a six-month contract, which ended 8/17. Since that was my third (and shortest) contract there, and since I left on good terms, I hope to be back there one day, in which case I'll be duckweeding again.

You should leave a secret tub in an air conditioning duct or something for when you return :)

(Dont actually do that unless you enjoy water boarding) :)
