Oh and it will prob take them a few weeks, depending on how many u want, as they have to wait for suitable ones to come in.
Would be a lot better if u were able to pick the fridges that you wanted, but thems the breaks.

Managed to check the pH between the rain today.
The good news is that the 8 tablespoons of hydrated lime have worked and the pH is now up to around 6.4-6.6 (hard to tell as light wasn't really good).
Added some limestone to the filter tank to help buffer it as well.
Duckweed starting to look a lot healthier as well and starting to reproduce again and the lettuce is going gangbusters.

Also made some of my own fittings as well using a BBQ, a beer bottle and some 40mm pipe. Saves me a few $ and a lot of time as well :-)

So I'm thinking that I may have an anaerobic spot in my fish tank somewhere.
My nitrites just won't come down.
Today they were up at 1ppm with no ammonia and about 7ppm nitrate.
Am gonna be cleaning the bottom of the tanks in the morning I think.
I don't remember having this much trouble on my smaller system at home.

Scooped out the bottom of the tanks today. The amount of debri was rather a lot and there's still a lot of small stuff in the tanks, but that should clear up once I get all the beds online.
Also found a few rather large "earthworms", but they were almost see through, and also quite a few bloodworms.

This is the pile that came from just one tank (this one is under a mulberry tree and closest to the sheoak tree)
Image
pH also went up today after yesterday's addition of Hydrated lime, up to 6.6-6.8 which is really good and hopefully will help to solve the high nitrite problem.
Does anybody actually know if silver perch will eat mulberry leaves?

Got the biggest of the gb's online last Friday. Was by no means optimised and had an issue with the plumbing, causing me to run all the water into the tank with the pump.
Tested the water on wed, the day I was getting a few free koi, and had a nitrite of ~1.5 in one tank and 0.75 in the other (confirming my suspicions of anaerobic zone).
I fixed the plumbing issue (to some extent, not completely fixed yet) and got the water flowing into the other tank.
Tested this morn and nitrite down to an average of ~0.3
Made some more temporary plumbing adjustments and tested again a few hrs later and could already see the nitrite going down.
Also improved the performance of the pump by changing the way the beds were plumbed up. Still losing a lot of flow at the head tho.

Gonna have to start looking for a way to keep duckweed for later use whilst I've got so much.

You can dry it down using either the sun or a dehydrator and use it later on a rainy day

Well I harvested a lot of duckweed yesterday and put it in the sun to dry. Unfortunately my lift home got there b4 it was dried, so it will be extra dry by Monday :-) lol

Not sure just how many kilo's I harvested, but there was a lot and that's only about half of it as well.
I also introduced some to another tub to expand production in readiness for fish next week :-D

Also there was no trace of nitrites or nitrates on fri, so I'm really happy :-)
