Thanks guys. I'm pretty pleased with how it all looks.
Put a few plants in today. It's still only recirculating the water from the grow bed. Still waiting for my air pump to rock up and still adjusting ph.
Planted-
Rocket
Butter head lettuce
Iceberg lettuce
Pak choi
Tatsoi
Basil
And threw in a kale, red cabbage, strawberry and a seedling I can't remember what it is. (Just threw a heap of seeds in the grow bed in no order)

Great stuff Rob. I hope the system cycling goes well.

Hopefully this works. First time using YouTube.
A short clip of the system upgrade. I have just put it online now. Slow as the pump will go for now as there is a 0.3 difference in ph. 6.3 in main tank, 6.6 in raft.
Hopefully this won't be too much if a shock for the fish.

I still need to finish a few things off.
Need more blue metal in the barrel.
Still haven't finished off the second fine solid removal barrel. At the moment it is just going through a filter bag that will catch solids.

So when this system cycles, will I see ammonia, nitrite spike or because there is only 100L barrel to cycle I won't see it?

Can anyone see any problems with this?

Cheers
Rob

Nearly Rob, put the characters (After the = sign.) from the YouTube link between the youtube brackets.
And you get this;

Is your raft in a separate system?

The clips aren't showing on my phone for some reason. I'll have a look at it tomorrow when I get to work.
It is part of the system I already have. I have just put another pump in the tank to run this side of it.

Im either going blind or something is going on.
I can't find the edit button to edit my video clip above.

So what are the things I need to worry about with adding new beds to an existing system?
Will I see a spike in Nitrites and Ammonia? My ammonia has been hovering around 0.5-1ppm lately. I won't feed for a couple of days cos the water is starting to get a bit dirty for some reason. Ill see if no feed helps.

I could see one clip OK on my phone last night Rob :) Looked like you had tried to add two though, and I couldn't see the first one.

Can't help you with the new beds though sorry.
I wouldn't think it would make too much (negative) difference though, since you already have bacteria living in your system and you're not adding a huge amount of media. Just a guess though.

I wouldn't think so, you'd actually be lessening your chances of a spike.
Keep an eye on your ph.

Cool. Thanks guys.
I just wasn't sure what to expect with building bacteria in the new filter.
Fish are still alive this arvo. No feed for a day or 2 while this comes online and try to clear my water a bit.

I need to start some more seeds and fill it up.

Just redone some of my dirt gardens. Learnt a lesson with strawberries. Cut the runners off. I started off with 8 plants last year. Had bugger all strawberries produced and ended up with nearly 200 plants.
Read up that it's best to cut runners off to promote fruiting.
Planted a heap of snow pea seeds for snow pea sprouts :)
Going to start some tomato seeds soon too. I have a few new varieties to try out this year. Most excited about trying green grape and costoluto genovese.

Anyone have any idea what these are?
I will have to organise myself a bit better with starting seeds before planting or remember what I planted. Haha.
These are from when I got all different seeds and sprinkled them in the grow bed but have no idea what they are.

And this one is basically for my reference so I can see how fast things are growing. The plants are starting to show some good growth and nice roots through the bottom :D

Some sort of brassica?
I'm sure it will be something tasty regardless ;-)

Im just going through my seeds and if it is a broccoli, it will be baby broccoli

Baby Broccoli
Brassica rapa 'Happy Rich' (F1)
Harvest the stems, flowers and leaves and use in stir-fries or steam as broccoli. Prolong the harvest by picking before the flower buds open. Yields 750g per plant.

Got the seeds free when I placed an order with diggers
Sounds good to me :)
