Your tact is impressive, Katmac.

I look forward to LNC_Morrison exercising his right of reply.

If his reply is anything less than an apology, we Mods might have something more to say.

Hi all struggling with selecting a pump,

My system is a constantly flooded system with a fish tank of 110 ft³ or just over 3kL, there will be a flow head height of about 2m, into four different grow beds, also measuring 110ft³, so a 1:1 ratio system with no slump tank, but using siphon to empty as each grow bed got full,

While its a continuous flow I was hoping to have all four grow beds at slightly different % full, as in grow beds a,b,c, and d will be empty, 33% 66% and full of water as not to lower the water level too much in the fish tank at any one time if all the grow beds were full at the same time,

That's probably more info then was needed but its easier to give it now then answer questions later,

I was wondering if anyone had any expierence of Jebao Eco Garden Koi Pond Pump EFP Series (6500 LPH) it is also available in different sizes 5000, 8000, 10000, 13000 and 15000 LPH,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A ... uctDetails

Would the 5000 or the 8000 be more suitable for my 3000L system with a 2m head height or even bigger?

I know the norm is to pump the whole fish tank once each hour but are there any negatives if it dose it more often, as in once every 45min or even twice an hour?

Are you sure your head requirement is 2m? You are measuring from FT water level to highest outlet not from pump outlet? :)

There are no negatives by over pumping until you get to the point where there is so much flow solids never settle, plant roots get damaged or fish cannot get a chance to rest because of water movement.

I also have a "high head" system and use more of an industrial pump than a pond pump. Lowarra and Ebara do pumps that will pump to 2m natively, as in not lose any flow until the 2m mark. They are more costly to run than a pond pump but have performed well for me so far (with the exception of one dying and being warrantied 6months after warranty expired).

lol i like my growbeds to be out of the reach of butterflies so they are on stilts.

Nah, that pump is to run to a garage roof, which is also about 10-12m away from the sump.

So even if the pump is sitting on the bottom of the FT you only cal the head height from the top of the fish tank, well that will drop my head height to about 1-1.5m, should I go as high as 8000L or will that be far too big,
