We have been working on our Aquaponics for a year now, we tried tilapia, lost them when we froze last winter. We have 4- 300 gallon tanks with bluegill, catfish, perch and a white sturgeon. We are getting some crayfish as soon as we fix the pump feed with a good screen so we don't suck the little critters up. Our gravel beds are 50 gallon troughs, all of this in a green house with two of the fish tanks in a lath area. The water is clear the fish thriving. Our tomato plants are nearly 4ft tall, however while the cherry tomatoes produce, it is a stretch to get lasting fruit on the Roma tomatoes. I have a two foot tall avocado, time will tell whether it will stay happy. We had lettuce all last winter. Love the water and the greenery. I am going to order wasabi roots and see how they do, I checked cultivation requirements and I think the marshy ebb and flow will be just right.

Welcome Llamaspinner! I can't wait to see pictures in a members thread. It will be interesting to see the wasabi results. I have heard that there has been some limited success with wasabi in rivers in Oregon. From what I understand, its light requirements are quite low. I found that ginger does better in my indoor setup than it ever did in my outdoor setup. Then again, with the light my indoor setup is getting, it is the ONLY plant that I have had success with.

I think I will try the ginger, I have a couple of plants on the front porch, that grow fairly well outside and die back in the winter, I will transplant tonight. I will take some pictures, we are pretty proud of our system. Our Blue gill are beggers as soon as they found out where the food comes from.
"What if today, we were just grateful for everything?"
