So after being stoked at my levels, woke to find a hose in my sump, with water spilling over. I knew I hadn't done it, so was a bit cranky.

My flat mate, in all his wisdom, thought my sump was a bit low and took it upon himself to fill it. Straight from tap, ignoring the spare dechlorinated water tank RIGHT NEXT TO THE SUMP. He has done a bit of aquaponics before (and now I know why he says he didn't have much luck), and he keeps attempting to tinker, even though I've stressed several times if he thinks there is an issue turn off and text me (I work nights and he early mornings so we don't cross paths).

So now my wonderful excitement at finally being cycled has gone down the drain. I don't know exactly how much, but I think hose was on at least three hours which I think is about every drop in my water turned over. Hopefully because it was in my sump and there is super pressure in their chlorinated water mostly ran out and I don't have a system crash. If I do I might go bananas.

Only positive (I'm a glass half full kinda guy.... Or at least I try) is that I can see my fish again as a lot of dust has cleared up.

Thanks

Yeah I was thinking of chopping him up and using his decomposition to start cycling process!

Did tests today, results as follows:
Ph 8.0
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0.25
Nitrate 0-0.5

Wait and see what happens next I guess.

Got a new pump today, decided pool pump whilst being good for water turnover, too much power. Got a 250w 18000 lph "Pondliners" brand. Got glue drying on fittings now, will let everyone know how it goes!

So did a test today

PH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 1.0
Nitrate 5.0

Ammonia has dropped, nitrite and nitrates have risen. Looks like I'm halfway thru cycling instead of starting at the very beginning.

My cat likes to hang around whilst I muck around with system. I think it's because he's smart enough to realise fish May equal food ahaha

My "work farm filter" seems to be doing a good job of cleaning water. Fish tank water coming in compared to water coming out into sump.

French beans are sprouting.... Is this to early for them when they are only small?

Kale still going nuts

Sorry to hear about your flatmate. Is that growbed deep enough to hide a body?

So on a personal front (mind you I am hooked into Aquaponics, so anything to do with life is linked ahaha), I bought a cafe today! Exciting and anxious for obvious reasons! So what little life I have outside of that will be building a system at the Cafe, as I want to supplement (I don't have stars in my eyes thinking I can supply everything like some posts I have seen ahaha) some produce for the cafe, as well as provide something from a "tourist"/interest point of view.

Still haven't decided whether I will attempt to move system or start anew.

As I learn more I really want to make it a feature, but lots more practice/growing to go first!
