Hi all


before 7 days i cut my tomatos roots except 2 cm that all root was rot in my NFT

But the strange reaction that the plants start to grow again and small tomatos start to appear

who can explain that .and can we always cut the roots and keep them very short.

so please any one try to do it just tell us in this topic about his test.

I am not sure about extra growth but I was told that fruiting can be a response to stress.

People seem to think we are put on planet earth to party not so our role is to reproduce plants are the same when plants are stressed they do what they are mental to do that's reproduce before they die

Yep.... Shocking plants into flowering/fruiting has been done for many years.

rotting roots:) .... in nft is a sign of low oxygen and or low flow rates.
what is the size of your channels? age of plant? pix?

Tomatoes are a very resilient vine.. u can cut the roots right off and it will just grow bac new ones.. same principle as grow a new plant from suckers of an old plant.. the bearing part is new news to me..

Root pruning is an old technique for getting the earliest 'maters to the market... in soil, a shovel is used to cut the roots half way around the plant and the plant responds be desperately accelerating the fruiting to get seeds out.

it is very wonderful explanation . i get now why the same reaction wasnot from young tomato plants ,that they start to die .

so can we keep the roots short (ex 3cm) to keep them from rot and fish waste if yes what is the suitable age .?

Thank you Thank you for asking this question. That explains what happened to my corn plants.
I have 4 plants in 5 gal buckets in a rain gutter wicking bed .

I saw lots of mosquito larva in the gutter and knew I could not allow that, so I put a net in place
and took the end cap off the gutter to catch the larva, but the roots of the corn had dammed up the
gutter so effectively that the water would not drain fast enough to flush out the larva.

So I pulled the buckets to flush the gutter. Now there was no way I could get all those roots back into the
gutter. So I trimmed them off. Fed the larva to my minnows

My corn plants were only 3 ft tall but they never grew another inch and yet each one of them started
producing one ear.... I thought it was a failure, but through the magic of the WEB I now know that it was
a normal and natural success for the plant.

Don't you just love this WEB thing; The ancteints worked a life time to learn these secrets but WE
can just read through the old post of a forum and everything is explained

There is an answer to every question. and someone has the experience that we need.
And to them it may be a "dumb" question, so the only "sin" is being too shy to ASK.
Even if it has been asked many times before, ask away; all the newbees and myself in particular
need to hear them and to figure them out anew.

Sometimes the experts forget to tell you what is "common knowledge"; they just assume you know.
