Two options that I can think of. One is to bury another barrel next to your RFF, then you can lower the bucket into that, siphon into the bucket then raise it back out.

Or you are back to the pump idea. Any cheap sump pump that can handle some solids will do. It is only on for a few seconds each day.

Any other ideas??

Being a community garden would it not be best to keep it simple, PIFT no filter?
Foolproof.

If you do not over stock you should not need the RFF.

okay maybe we will go with that and alter in future if need be - saves digging another hole.

Do you still think I should have a 'sump' barrel with pump in it and 90mm connection between FT? would have an SLO then.

While a sump barrel a SLO in the ft has its merits it is still over complicating. You should construct a system that any mug can look at and after. Perhaps they may even realise that they can do the same at their own homes. More information can be gleaned with your guidance towards this forum where they can join the rest of us mugs.
Keep it simple Jay.

I think that your FT is too low to gravity feed the GB. If that is correct then you can run a pump in your FT instead. The idea of the sump barrel was get the pump after the RFF. A tank that size could quite easily handle a fluctuation in water volume.

After looking over it again, I agree with others, ditch the pump tank and RFF as they just add labour and difficulty to the design.

It would be good if you can set it up CHIFT PIST but if your FT is too low it would be even better if you just pump from FT to GB's and return to FT. Simple is often best, especially being a community project.

looking good. You can use a double layer pf shade cloth around the edges if you need a light seal.
