Hi Guys,

After having a look at Colum Black-Byron's system i want to convert my NFT system into a flood & drain system.

I have gathered all the required materials and am ready to pounce! The only parts left is the plumbing...

I was wondering if anyone could recommend pipe sizes for the bell siphon system?

My grow bed is (90 * 90 * 20 cm) or (3 * 3 * 0.6 feet)

Fish tank is 160L or 42G

I'm using scoria rock as the media because it is light & very porous

My fish are 4 cute barramundi (mmm get in my belly).

Cheers!

Al

I used 2.5" for the bell, 4" for the outside, and 1" for the drain pipe. Been in a year, and has performed flawlessly.

Thanks!

Is you grow bed a similar size to mine or does it not matter?

My GB's are 4' x 4'. You could probably downsize those sizes a bit, but you would need to. If you build a larger one, you can always use it when you upgrade, which is something you can't do with a smaller one. Bigger is almost always better in AP! Bigger fish tank, bigger grow beds, bigger pipes. Bigger fish, bigger veggies, etc. You can grow nice stuff with smaller systems, it's just harder from what I've researched. Smaller systems demand closer monitoring and have less "margin for error" like larger systems. When things go wrong, they go wrong quickly. Frequent water samples and monitoring. Good luck

I missed this thread somehow, very unlike me!

It was good having you around!

You didn't waste any time getting it up and running. I'm glad to hear it's working well now!
