Not drawn well.

The little pipe is the material left behind after two or three large notches have been cut out of it. In the drawing above the inner pipe is only to keep the outer pipe in place.

The level is set by an external stand pipe.

Stuart would it be possible to use a course grate on the center tank drain and use a finer mesh on the end of the external stand pipe. That way cleaning would only need take place on the external mesh. The tank drain could be just brushed to remove build up.

I haven't really thought about it but I'm sure it would be. Why would you though?

Which reminds me I haven't posted a picture of my retrofit.

For the tanks that I am working on now they are two big to reach into with your hand or to clean properly with a broom.

With my retrofit I remove the vertical drain piece if I ever feel it needs a clean.

Do you have any questions that I could answer to explain things better?

 Ehh yes must find the camera.

We have a baby due on Friday so I've been a bit scattered. I took some photos of my retrofitted rectangular tank the other day but haven't got round to uploading them yet.

Right now the camera is in the bag in the car ready for the eminent scramble. Everything is covered in about 2" of frost so I'm not going out there now. :toothy9:

Congrats Stu. Obviously not your first, otherwise we would have known sooner. The novelty wears off after the first ;)
